Terramycin Spray

Morning all,

I'm after some terramycin to treat a small wound on one of my sheep / to have handy.

My local vet has said that they cannot legally give me a prescription without a call out.
£24 for a pre booked visit and then £44 ever 20 minuets!

Seems a little ridiculous just to get some antibiotic spray.

Many thanks
Chris

Try ringing the doctors and asking for antibiotics with seeing a doctor or having a pre-existing condition. The law is there for a good reason.

Have you used the vets before? If you are new to the practise they might just want to see who they are dealing with etc. Most will dispense things like spray if you are a regular customer, well they will over here anyway.

When we bought our first sheep I registered with the local vet and they had to come for a call out (cost us about £50 all in I think) just so they could see that we actually did have sheep, and since then they will dispense drugs when I ask for them. I sold a couple of ewes to a new sheep keeper a few months ago and he had the same issue, before he could get any wormer the vet said they needed to visit costing him again around £50. If you're not already registered with a vet then you will have to bite the bullet and get on with it. And best not to put it off until something's actually ill or you could find it costs a lot more!

A thought. If its a fresh wound with no infection, why use an antibiotic? We should be reducing where possible.

Pearce Seeds in Dorset sell it.
It forms a really good second skin and has a bitter taste deterrent to stop other animals licking it off. Decent antiseptic and no antibiotic. I put it on my rams heads where they'd been banging and after a week the skin was healed. Around £11/can plus postage if necessary

They'll need to come out every 6 to 12 months from memory, think annually as minimum.
