Reminds me of a visit to the Yeo Valley yoghurt factory when I was at uni. We were looking at it from a manufacturing engineering point of view, but I remember then that they had 40 odd different formulations of strawberry yoghurt, that they could produce at the drop of a hat, in any quantity right down to half-tonne batches. They produced all their own brand stuff, as well as products for all the major retailers. On our visit, they had Tesco finest and Sainsbury value products coming off adjacent lines.

This seems like a bit of a non-news story tbh. Of course two types of feta have the same ingredients and analysis; doesn't mean they've been processed the same though...

Of course they do, there isn't an Asda crisp factory. Processors make product that isn't their brand all the time. That's not to say they are exactly the same, each product will have it's own standard, Asda crisps may have been made from slightly poorer potatoes than Golden Wonder's main brand.

The general public are easily fooled. But slap a Fendt badge on and increase the mark up by 30%, a farmer can't afford NOT to buy a deal like that!

When I worked on the turkey production line at Sun Valley Poultry (all be it 35 years ago), all the different supermarket "brands" were the same turkeys, just different bags (however with M & S, any bruised turkeys were not sent out under that label ~ set aside for other brands).

With your logic I should just buy Tesco value/own brand stuff and totally reject anything else since it's 'all the same'?

Supermarket fuel is 'just the same' as that sold in other forecourts? I think there is a lot more to it than that.

I bet they are not the same crisps, they will have different seasonings for a start,

No different to farmers, nothing is a the same standard, so some things make more, something's make less, you just have to grade it accordingly and price accordingly

So while on about this practice in this thread, would it be better to just have fendt tractors for sale, and pee off all you miserable buggers that cannot afford them, or have a wide spread of tractor makes like we do, no different from food

My close friend is one of these that believes Tesco's milk taste better that coop or the village shop ,the times I've said to her , its the same milk from the same dairy ,just in other branded cartons,,cant convince her.

Not true, Tesco milk is from farms on a Tesco contract, milk from the Tesco farms is picked up on its own and not mixed with milk from other farms.

CO OP is slightly different, whilst they too have farms on a dedicated contract the tankers pick up milk from other farms too .........which is a bit.......erm....I don’t know really

And if the Tesco dedicated supply on a given day is more than the Tesco stores order, where do you think the surplus goes? No, not into storage.............

Of course, in the run up to Christmas when Tesco stores double their orders, Arla and Muller tell them they can't have extra as there isn't enough coming in from Tesco dedicated farms
