I'm thinking of putting a texel ram to cheviot ewe's but I am wondering are they easy at lambing time and would they be hardie sheep to be on a hill.

We know have a lot of Chev cross ewes, out of Tex cross ewes, also run a couple and sell a few Chev cross Texel rams good sheep, a bit sharp, but calm down grade well do well of grass, but we still lamb indoors, my daughter has pures and has sold a lot of lambs already of some very poor banks. av 19kg R3l.

I made a similar thread a few years ago when contemplating trying a texel on our cheviots instead of blueface Leicesters.
I’ve decided I was wrong and the bfl is the best answer, the ewe lambs make a fortune and the wether lambs get to 45kg before the texel x cheviot lambs did.
As a hill sheep I think a 50/50 cross would struggle but a quarter texel in them would make a good ewe with a bit more prolificy, size and confirmation. Assuming your hill isn’t too extreme [emoji108]

I've got a very small number of them, big strong sheep, keep condition well, attentive mothers, don't like being handled throw good lambs back to a texel, will be putting them to a charolais this year and I suspect they will be better lambs if anything!
