TexX ewes - which Tup to use?

Think I'm getting the hang of things, day 2 with the yard...

The hill singles gathered in for a wee spray of Vectocert (Crovect) for ticks, they've been shifted through to the hill field and will go out into the hill tonight or maybe tomorrow if they've settled (y)

115 Hill ewes with twins in this afternoon for a Vecoxan dose.

Lambs are just really 4-6 weeks old... perfect age to make an arse of me and the dog trying to get the ewes into the mobile pens for their very first time :banghead: but we managed. Yard is big enough if they all go in... but extra hurdles would be helpful. But, after I had them penned the first ones in were getting trampled and a few were down being smothered  got to them before anything happened but I'm glad I noticed early on and not half way through dosing!!

The lamb nearest the camera has wonky front legs... I'm hoping it'll can go away fat. Very pleased with how the rest are doing though.

The Honda don't like towing the Alligator!! My diesel bike starter motor packed in so I'm making do for the moment :shifty:

I'm definitely a Scot, and must be partially Aberdonian  cheapo free dosing guns are pretty much all I use... when one stops working it gets chucked in the back of the medicine cabinet and I always think it'll come in handy for spares. Well I've finally been proven right and managed to make parts from 3 guns and 1 injector fit together and make 1 'new' gun (y) (I do have a tall, thin measuring jug for calibrating my dosing guns with, although those red Cydectin guns are always pretty accurate anyway)

Cheers.

Been 'finished' about a fortnight, maybe 3 weeks. But there were a group of 10 or so girls decided to be late and they've lambed this past week. There's 1 left to lamb I think and all other 'empties' were rounded up checked for being in lamb and put away cull on Wednesday.

Haven't counted how many lambs there are but I don't think I have as many as I would like.

How are your big early lambs doing now? Mine are fairly growing and eating plenty of creep pellets. Hopefully the price stays up

The TexX ewes were looking a bit dirty, and with a decent spring I thought they'll get worse before shearing. Had enough bother with this lot at the end of May getting struck last year so rounded them up and did their tails today...

Set up the pens this morning. Had lunch then went to round up the mob, got them bunched and jesus did it not rain, HARD - and hail stones :confused: I hid under a tree for 20mins with no let up so, pretty soaked,i headed home. 2hrs later it's nice and sunny, Met Office app says no more rain today so off I set and get them in. 20 left to do it comes in again. I hide in the Land Rover for 10mims... decide it's not going to let up then cracked on. I'm frozen and soaked through now, but it's lovely and sunny out again :cautious:

The Gripper works well in the race (y) set up worked fine but i reckon with an anti backing gate instead of the guillotine into the race, the ewes would flow really well.

I had wanted to put pour on, on the lambs too. But decided it wasn't worth it - and I was proven right. Hopefully they'll be OK for another month til the ewes are shorn.

Aye, lambs are looking to be doing well. Hardly touching any creep though (n) not sure what to make of it...
I'm hoping they are grazing enough and the ewes seem to have loads of milk so just see how it goes I guess.

What’s the run time on the Horner motor? Do you start the Landy every hour or so to keep the battery topped up ? Set up looks good !(y)

It's a Horner 3.2. Don't use it very often if I'm honest, dad bought it back in the 90's. Very handy thing to have though - especially now with the mobile yard (y)

It mostly gets used cleaning tails (fat lambs), so I only ever use it 40-50mins at a time hooked upto a tractor.

I have used it shearing a few days and on the land rover or tractor battery, 3 hours use without charging is no problems. If doing a full day, 30mins engine running at lunch would be enough I think.

It's a nice machine, the only thing I dislike is the switch which is very light/sensitive.. takes a bit getting used to.

If you want to shear away from mains, it's the best thing going (or buy a generator) but for just doing tails the cordless jobs might be a better buy.

Aye, won't be long til I'm back at the long blows. 4ish weeks weather depending. I'm looking forward to getting started (y)

Go faster stripes! Don't worry they're all the rage ;)

I think I avoided any close up pics of my shearing... I'll take the pressure off you and stick some up this time :bag:
