TexX ewes - which Tup to use?

They'll be looking for a plainer type of lamb for that job than their usual type?

Due to Brexit the export job Vivers built their name on is not what it was. They are now supplying much more lambs to the domestic market... different days for different contracts.

Scotlamb are supplying Aldi currently, from Bridge of Allan. But now Vivers will do runs, too.

Got lambs booked in for Scotbeef next week quoting £4.00. Spoke to boy from Ayr mart and he’s talking the lamb job up [emoji106]

The 2 mobs of ewes with Texel lambs were put into 1 field all together this morning... took the mobile yard up to the passageway through the trees and set up for spraying the lambs with Vectocert (Crovect).

15mins set up (mostly just standing looking figuring out best way to make a long pen)... I fetched about half into the alley. I wasn't sure if it would have held all 260 ewes and lambs, plus being on a slope I was a bit feart for crushing at the bottom end where I set the pens up. Turns out, aye it would hold them all no bother. 3 hurdles halfway up the alley to keep them near me. From start to finish I had all the lambs sprayed in under an hour.

I always knew walking the ewes and lambs down to the steading was the slow part of the job, but that surprised me how much time I've saved.

In other news  brother and the family are away at his in-law's with the kids leaving me on my todd... no bother, not the first time. We have a small number of cows which never bulled because of the heat last summer :banghead: they are in calf and coming on now. We have been calving all summer upto now with the odd one every week or so... well sods bloody law he leaves yesterday saying "there's 1 cow looking close but she won't do anything til I'm back" cue me fetching her In last night at 7pm as she's calving. I put my hand in, she's open and everything feels fine so I leave her be to get on with it. Back out at 10pm she's no farther on so back into the crush before it gets dark (we have no lights, so need to use the tractor ). Nah, calf is upside down. But no bother, it doesn't feel that big a calf, so I bugger about and get it round and out quite quickly. Dead! And it is bloody tiny!!

She's a decent cow so I'm pretty pee'd but there's nothing can be done. She's shut in with it and I think she wants it. She has milk, so he can decide what to do when he is home tomorrow night.

No doubt this will be my fault, when he gets back... but he couped my diesel bike on Thursday night and it won't start since :banghead: I've had a look at it (whilst giving the cow time last night) and I reckon he has written the engine off... so I've got ammo if he says anything :sneaky::ROFLMAO:
So i'm on the market for a new bike:facepalm:

What you looking at? your not Honda fan are you

Right now. I don't know... I really wasn't wanting to change the bike any time soon, so I will wait until January which is when I need it.

I don't want a Honda.

We have 2 old shape 420's. I've just fitted a new fuel pump to the newer one of the 2 and it's running lovely now after giving us lots of problems... It's an OK run about but not man enough for trailer and snacker work. The other 420 I will be glad to see the back of, it's for sale anyway but I'll keep a hold of it until I'm ready to buy and it'll go at the same time.

Itl be between CanAm, Suzuki, Polaris and Yamaha (in no order).

Checked the weather forecasts on Sunday, after today (Monday) the rest of the week is to be wet here... took the executive decision to go on and mow the last silage field Sunday afternoon, to bale today. I got to play with the new mower :sneaky::ROFLMAO:(y) It was very sunny and hot yesterday so even before I was out the field, the grass was wilting (y) ideally should've cut it Saturday, but lambs needed sprayed.
It's been overcast today but still warm. No breeze though. Hell of a pollen coming off the grass - tractor is now yellow!

14acres, 149 bales. I'm fairly happy with that as it looked light for a long time. We are doing 33acres, 2nd cut. Fert and g-lime ordered just waiting on delivery...

The cow which I calved Friday night, brothers decided just to kill her. She's 12, she's in pretty fit condition so we will just 'cut our losses'.

The Suffolk lambs are booked in for a Friday kill this week, so I'll need to get Jim out on Wednesday. They were sprayed with Vectocert (Crovect) first week of June, but I had 2 lambs struck this morning. Lots and lots and lots of flies where they are, so I'm not surprised cover has ended... sh!tter is I can't do anything until these lambs go. 1 of the struck was marked to go, too :banghead: need to ride it out the next few days:nailbiting: Once these lambs go the rest will be wormed, sprayed and weaned.

Wow, that's barely six weeks cover from the Crovect? Must be heavy fly challenge right enough. I find it quite good but we are nearly coastal and pretty exposed.

On the higher ground, we get the full 8-10 weeks no bother... but they are running 150-200ft lower than the farm steading, and pretty much the edge of the valley floor, with trees dotted round and a large wood on 1 side which they are never far from. Because if the way the chemical works, the more flies it kills the quicker it wears off...

I hate Elanco with a passion, and have vowed to only use their products when I really need to or have no choice. I will probably Clik these lambs next year :(

Does the man from Vivers come and draw the lambs for you? I’ve got some going in on Friday also, they were meant to go to Scotbeef but they are not killing anymore lambs for the next 10 days due to holidays [emoji848]
