TexX ewes - which Tup to use?

I'd say 20% losses is about "normal". Even when I think I've had a good year the numbers don't vary much.

Seems to be going ok so far this year BUT I've never lost as many ewes between scanning and lambing - not all for the same reasons either!

Had a couple of triplets here lambed but have blind quarters  . Think I recalled you saying that you'd found a couple similar @Nithsdale Farmer? In contrast to previous years, looks like the pet pen will be starting to fill already!
What's the collective opinion on skinning one dead twin to set one on? Worth the hassle or not?
Pet Pen!!!,
I put an advert up for Pet lambs, had that much demand for them @ £25 each, i contemplated taking lambs off ewes and culling them!!
With the kids off school everyone round here is looking something to keep them busy

Cracking weather continues... I'm no sun worshiper, but it's bloody nice after constant rain!

Had to lamb a ewe with twins this morning... rotten! Never seen a ewe this late on in lambing have rotten lambs. They were entire when I started but fell to bits as they came out. Thankfully it was as they came out - so I got all the guts etc out, too. Massive jag of that Betamox equivalent I have and sent her on her way. She's up and going about tonight so here's hoping she's OK.

2 more pairs, for by, and they're going fine.

Another 45 acres covered with fert today...

Can't really complain about driving the tractor, with that view!

Another hole in the fence made for the harvester. He will be finished tomorrow, I reckon. I got him to take down a big, low Oak branch which crossed above the road to the fields. His harvester only just got under and it was dubious whether the forwarder would. He was looking at it when I showed up so I pushed him on to take it down. His concern was, the end section was going to be very big and it was only ending 1 place - ontop of a dyke and gatepost. Which it did. It made a bit of a mess, but I'm still glad the branch is down (and headed for my firewood pile)

It was GTB on here that said something like dont count the dead ones count the living ones, and don’t give the dead ones a 2nd thought because they won’t be thinking of you.
Worth remembering some days!
(Obviously we are all trying to improve our flocks performance)

Oh spreading with the back window open!, geesh spot the shepherd on the tractor ;);).!

Did you say you have a new tractor on order? Another Valtra?!

Air Con could do with a charge, so it's window open or cook! It was nice in the winter, but not now :ROFLMAO:

New to us, but not new. Waiting on a loader for it - it's brand new. Tractor coming isn't a Valtra. 14reg McCormick 115 (y)

I can't put Dai into words. He is greatly missed.

And thank you, that's very kind. I'm glad you enjoy the thread and my posts.
Doesn't feel like it's been running 3 1/2 years!

Been a steady trickle of late lambs since last posting. Mostly twins with the odd single. Absolutely no idea what's left to lamb.

Forestry guys are finished, it's not been too bad but now the long wait on the fencers! There's 3 massive blown oak down which they are supposed to be taking too. The promise is these will be gone before the fencers show up (they've been down and we've been waiting over a year) so they can do all the repairs at one time.

Been sorting out and shifting ewes round. The hill twins are away to their summer parks next to our hill. The singles are up beside the hill, waiting for a spray of Dysect this coming week then they'll be let fre onto the hill. The Suffolk lambs have been brought up to the farm to give their fields a rest whilst the fert kicks in. The lambs will get multi bit and probably a worm when they're up. And I've broken my rule on never buying Elanco products, I've a small bottle of Clik to spray the lambs with when I dagg the ewes and they'll get a spray of crovect, timed, to keep them right (hopefully) upto shearing.

Hill twins are content tonight
