Mmm, we're all in the south so far. Blackface sheep breeders already have a North v South game at Perth, and a Lanark v Newton Stewart game at Lockerbie. Players have been known to be stalked at Lockerbie 🤣🤣

I'm sure the craic would be excellent 🥴
Was once asked to play in the north v south BF game, but couldn’t make it, probably just as well considering my opinions on said sheep

Feckin Nora, that’s not saying much !😂
Many a Bonny , and regularly not so bonny lassies turned down my advances in the old Craigie Hen Hut !
Even got lifted by the rozzers once there for my troubles !
They refused to believe it was a case of mistaken identity!😂
I couldn't for the life of me remember the name "Hen Hut". Old age doesn't come alone 😜

Nothing lambed in the hoggs since Thursday... starting to frustrate me this - it's dragging!

But 4 lambed today. All singles but 1 was dead at first rounds - looked like it had been hung, it's in and the youngest pet twinned on. Had to lamb the 4th Hogg at lunchtime, big lamb a bit stuck with feet under the chin. She wasn't too keen, so into the shed for a couple hours to settle and bond. Doing grand so back out this afternoon.. fetched in another hogg this afternoon which had lambed this morning as I wasn't happy the lamb had sucked. She's got milk but not lots. Gave the lamb some colostrum to be sure at 4pm and it feels full tonight, so hopefully a quick turn around and back out tomorrow for it too

I think I make it 18 hoggs still to lamb. And 6 ewes I'm still waiting on...

Funnily enough we had quite a busy day today considering the state of play ......getting close to the end now 🍻

Today is day 50 of this year's lambing...
IMG_20220420_183922_253.jpg

There's 4 ewes still hanging on and I'm down to 15 hoggs left to go - 6 or 7 have lambed in the last day and a half...
No issues really.

The pure Texel Hogg which lambed last week went out to the field at the weekend but she just stayed in the same place until yesterday afternoon when the lambs looked empty so fetched her back into the shed... gave her some hay which she seemed keen on and feed so wasn't too concerned. Went in last night to feed the lambs and she was coupied in a low bit of the shed floor. Didn't think much of it and got her sat up and she seemed fine. Back in this morning she's on her left side, and fighting/pushing back when I sit her up:( phone the vets and we both agree on CCN so they sit out B1 and Steroids for her, I had already given her Pen&Strep... she's sitting up properly tonight but still not getting up. Keeping feed and hay Infront of her and gave her some water earlier, which she drank a little of but I felt she needed more, so got a 1 litre cocktail of lukewarm water/molasses/twin lamb drench into her to try and keep her fluids and energy levels up but I never have much success with these things and am fearing the worst
Sods law - it is the best of the Texel hoggs, too

We're halfway through calving - only 4 heifers left to calf then just cows after that. Don't want to jinx things but it's going very well so far!
Brothers started putting fert on the silage ground, grass is really.motoring since the weekend. Singles are away to the hill, 1 group of twins are away to the summer parks next door so there's a lot more space at home now

Fantastic old character. Was in getting blades done before lambing , said he was ready to put the business on the market. Be a big loss if no one steps in. He’s happy to work alongside a buyer for a season to help them get going

Due to Covid I've not been up/seen him since 2019. Actually looking forward to getting to the Highland and hopefully seeing him at the shearing

He had to call time at some point but it's still sad to see him officially retire
Be a good wee sideline for you Nithy. You’re keen on the whole shearing malarkey, and know him !
Would you offer TFF discount? I can sweeten the deal with choccy digestives !👍

I like playing at it but I've seen him guddling in the guts of Heiniger machines before and I'd be well out of my depths!..

Did consider opening myself up for sharpening - but I can't be doing with the shyte covered scrap I'd get given expected to work wonder on

Plus, I'm not enough of a people person 🤣

But hiy, if you send me your gear and a crate of choccy biscuits I'll sharpen them at a cheaper rate 👍
