What’s the size difference roughly between hill and park tups/ewes ?Only really had anything to do with hill types, either from Lairg as lambs to store , or ewes from Lockerbie !
Sorry for the late reply Bill. Hard to say really but hill type are definitely smaller, stockier and slower maturing. Hill rams are smaller sold as two shears than almost all of the park shearlings. Hill lambs aren't as long as the park type which seems to make a big difference in the store ring. Didn't weigh stores at the time but I'd definitely say with us they'd be a month later to get to the same money.

Like all breeds, there's horses for courses though. I'd imagine on a lot of places, the parkies would grow too much frame before getting fat.

That’s a good observation about them growing too much frame first before fat. Rather like Suffolk’s out of mules used to shoot n grow scrawny as feck, then think about fleshing a bit around 50 kg !🤦‍♂️

Only just seen these last posts, agree with what @AftonShepherd says. Some of the Park cross I've got are heavy, I'd like to try the hill type but not sure if the ewes would be too small... still undecided which I'm buying but my head says to stick with what I'm doing and continue with a Park

Not much happening here. Lambs are all weaned and ewes have been teeth and bagged so I know roughly where I am - need to see how many ewe lambs I have, but I'll be wanting to lamb some hoggs again as I'm light on ewes...

Just gone through my Beltex lambs - weaned 10 days ago. Handling very well and have 20, hopefully 40kg I will try away fat tomorrow.. (see what weight the market reckons they are 🙄).

Had my pure Texel lambs in, and 2 of the 3 BeltexTexel lambs - the best of the cross lbs has managed to get into a different group of lambs but shes looking well and content.

This is them all together, but that 1 girl is stealing the show! She's out of a homebred ewe, and from a homebred ram... will definitely be using her dad on them all this year again now (had been intending buying a ram but will wait til next year when the daughters are Gimmers)

BeltexTexels are smaller obviously but I'm liking them, should go on and do

Huge nostrils, and appears to be peeling round its chest , it’ll be worth a fortune !
Say it’s by Tophill Joe ( only texel name I remember!), and watch those bids flow in !
Expect the first offer from @Woolless for his peelly tex/ shedder composite flock !😂
You've read my mind! Current plan is to double down on the ''Texecare/Easytex' breeding. I need some 'tremendous nose ends' to push the flock in the right direction 👍

Texel, BelTex and Chindale tup lambs being kept and will be used this autumn...

The Chindale has lots of 'Character' 😉 so is a bit hard to get a photo of 🙄... Born as a single (would've ideally kept a twin, but his mum was marked to keep a tup off of, before she even went to the tup and only scanned for 1... the other ewe I marked had 2 girls 🤦🏻‍♂️)
I liked him a lot as a lamb but undecided on him currently. Will see how he develops over the next year (and what the lambs off him are like!) before I make a full judgement.

BelTex was born a twin but raised as a single on a Hogg (it's mother - a Hogg too - took CCN and unfortunately had to be put down). The sister is roughly same size, raised on a Hogg also.

Texel is a twin too, and reared as a twin with his sister. Very pleased with how he's turning out so far

@Nithsdale Farmer , I can’t believe you haven’t put up your ideal tup photo. I tried to find it in the 2nd best thread 👌, but it’s already at 85 pages, so couldn’t be fecked ! Tup lambs look grand !
Will you tup lleyns or tex x ewes with the Cheviot ? I should remember, but it’s hard keeping tabs on the frenetic pace of tup genetics!🤦‍♂️😂

I can not take claim for breeding this fine specimen. He is not one of mine (nor do I own him 🤣)

The Parkie Cheviots will go out with the only Lleyn tup I have left, and go to the A-Flock Lleyn ewes

The Chindale® tups will be used along side the 2 aged Chindale® rams and put to the maiden Gimmers - so a mix of Lleyn and Chindale®
