Hats off to you sir for posting away....
I have not looked at this thread for 2days.... my coffee time now is for power naps not TFF...
Decent progress here on all fronts.. calving ,lambing, ploughing, top dressing etc....
One thing to add... we are having big lambs... and it's the least amount of feed the ewes have ever had in the run up to lambing....
We are pulling a lot out !!!
Aye "hi care" flock!!!!
Will have to have 're think for next year!!
Having the odd big lamb here to,putting it down to a frost free winter,

You can say that again! Year before couple of real nasty lamb killing days in early May. Is a decent spring too much to ask any more??

Last night sorted some out for us, a pair born Sunday morning that looked ok died, facing the weather from the west - but they died with a smile on their face(y)
The TexX mother has a bursting udder so double skinning already taken. Started yesterday with 12 to adopt. All gone now(y)

@Nithsdale Farmer do you fancy some Aberfield x welsh ewes? They go well with texel Rams (y)

46 is 24month old
44 is 12month old.
Bottom picture is the ewe lamb.

Both lambed themselves but in a field with no shelter so came in overnight as we had a big storm!

Had a hill ewe drop a pair first thing, 1 lamb on its side kicking can't/won't sit up or stand - keeps pushing over to it's side(n)
Also have a very old ewe in which had triplets but not much milk, lifted 1 for twinning on.. between 12-18 hours after birth one of the 2 still on the ewe started holding both it's front and rear right legs. I initially thought the ewe had lay on the lamb... but now I'm not so sure! The lamb is lively and can get about, but it is a struggle for it. Anyone any ideas? My initial thought was White Muscle Disease, but I'm not sure. Other than Engemycin or Pen&Strep i have nothing i can give either lamb. If i get time i might take them to the vets, but i don't hold out much hope of getting time today...

@bovine what would your thoughts be on the above lambs?

I meant to add.

Today marks 4 years since Lambing 2013 was turned on its head with the snow...
Yes , it was also remembered here today. 4 years ago our peninsula was cut off from the rest of the world by a 20 foot drift of snow . When the team that were dispatched from the North to start clearing the drift arrived at the scene , they were so incredulous at what they saw that they filmed it on their phones and put it on Youtube. It was actually quite comical to watch once it was all over - their language of disbelief was colourful to say the least.

Had a feed lorry in this afternoon. The driver reminisced that he got to within 50 miles of home , but had to park up for the better part of a week. There was no snow to the North where he stopped , so he was in comfort - pub , electricity , hot food , TV coverage , much better than getting home.

No power from Friday morning to Wednesday evening. All cooking done on the log burning stove and we ate royally as we had to eat everything that was defrosting while we lived in the one room.

The spirit of community came right back. The phone never stopped ringing as everybody checked up on everyone else. Do you need anything? Have you enough food , water? Do you need a hand with the stock? If you can get to your road end on the tractor I can leave you some food off , the road is clear now from the town. Feeding stations were set up in the local town for the vulnerable to go to for a heat and a meal.

No TV , no internet , everybody came together at night and talked as a family round the only fire that heated the house. It was like broad daylight outside with the white of the snow. On the Sunday night we saw the ship sail down that was carrying emergency generators to power the local town emergency centres. It was also carrying a cargo of passengers who were trying to get home to family and loved ones.

The temperature was sub-zero for at least a week. The last snow on this farm disappeared around April 20th.

Today has been almost endless  just never seem to have stopped. Been in the door 15mins from last rounds. Need my tea and a warm up at fire before going to the shed at 9...

Have only had to bring in 4 ewes - 2 singles, both dead. A pair which haven't sucked, and a surviving single from a triplet (other 2 were dead/rotten) which the weather was beating. I think there's only been 20 ewes lambed today, thankfully.

Weather was supposed to ease off tonight but it hasn't - infact, i think its getting worse currently.

You have quite a way with words @CharcoalWally, you should write a book!
As difficult as I'm sure it was, that sounds like my idea of heaven, I'd love it!
