Private deal so you'll have to mind your own business on that one I'm afraid!
At the breeding sales you'd spend about £65 to £70 for decent ewe lambs.

Never mind, no harm in asking ;) shy bairns get nowt and all that.

Do they herd with a dog? Or are they like the Shetland in that respect?

I will keep my eyes peeled. Which breeding sales do you recommend?

Finally took on this thread and have read right through it ! Thoroughly enjoyed the read.
I think this is what makes farming such an interesting way of life. No two farms are run the same way and despite all the wildly different opinions there is several "right" ways to farm as well as wrong ways. Kudos for all the updates Nithsdale Farmer.
Best of luck with the new tupping season everyone (y)

So...

After last year's experiment, I hinted at another this year.

Well here they are

NCC Park type bought at Lockerbie on Wednesday.

I decided to go with the Park, and not Hill, type as I want to keep some size and more importantly length in my ewes... Not that the Hill type is short, but I felt they wouldn't add as much to my ewes as the Park should.

The plan is a 1-off cross onto my Lleyn ewes, then breed back to the Lleyn... just to 'lift' the flock. I have Park X lleyn ewes running from a Park visitor a few years ago, and I do like them and their Texel lambs. The Cheviot blood is easy to see, the lambs weigh and fleshen very easily.

Cheers. I am very pleased with them.

Dad is in a wee bit of shock... he can (just) remember my Grandfather putting the Cheviots (Southies) off in the early 50's when the farm switched to Blackies. He never thought we would be going back to Cheviots :ROFLMAO:

Great plan that man :)
If this next chapter is half as entertaining as the last one , you ( and your avid readers) will be on to a winner!
Please give us due warning when you plan to " remove " your tups !:ROFLMAO:

I'll keep you all updated (y)

The sooner I turn the tups out, the sooner I can pull them off again :ROFLMAO:;)
