TFF Parkrun Fiends...............

Been a while since my last park run. My local park runs have been regularly cancelled recently with festivals and other events going on and on the days when they have been running I have had other commitments. I got invited out on a mountain bike last week to ride some rather tough Shropshire Hills with a local group of regular mountain bikers. I was worried I might hold up the group, especially on the climbs, however, my park runs must have done me some good... To quote another rider "if this is your first ride out climbing hills like these I am astonished" I was pretty astonished myself! Refuelled after on pizza and beer (y) which probably undid all the effort :LOL: Going to be a regular fix in my week I think, physically activity does wonders for mental health and the views where glorious (y)

Tried a different Park Run today. My take away it is that runners from Shrewsbury are on average fitter and faster than those at Telford! Didn't drag me along any quicker though, I am got stuck in the mid 26's.. I need to find the right motivational pacemaker to follow :woot:

Well............ its been a while, and it was hot, and I had to walk to the #parkrun as Mrs m was off to London town to see the niece & have some "girly time".
Was there early & helped them set up, a lot of our kit was loaned to the Victoria park run last weekend (we were "closed" due to a fair)..... only one stop watch came back, luckily someone had the volunteer app on their phone, first time we`ve used such!

505 folk done it, I was 324 in 31m 7s ...........then had to walk home.

On the bright side I ran it all and Mrs M`s trip down to the smoke took nearly 6 hours due to the M1 being shut! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::whistle:

OK, well I am coming back to it again.

I struggled on through injury to complete a 10k back at the end of March, but I have taken a couple of months 'off' in order to make sure my foot recovered properly.

One of my old rugby mates had to have huge reconstructive surgery on his leg/hip a few years ago and started a 'walk a day' charity project starting on the 1st of Jan 2019, he is coming up on halfway through the year and the difference in him is incredible to see. He was struggling to walk much more than 1km in the beginning but is now looking to try and do a 10k on his 183rd day.

When we spoke the other day he said '...if it hadn't been for the fact that I had taken peoples money, and promised them that I would do this thing, I'd have given up a long time ago.'

As such, I am thinking that I may well do the same, open myself up a bit, make it largely public and do something for charity. That way I think it will force me to make time for it, rather than using the excuse of 'I've had a busy day and I just didn't have time'.

I have been watching my wife do the 'race at your pace' medals now every month, and would like to do the same. I have settled on the idea of doing a triathlon per week, by doing 5mi swimming, 25mi running and 100mi on the bike each month. I won't really be doing a full triathlon on any one day, although I may give it a go at the beginning and end just to see how I do.

What do you think? What sort of charities should I raise money for?

For me booking an event totally helps get me training. I wouldn’t have been out running 8 miles at 5am in the dark before work in the rain if I did not have a marathon to train for! Now I have nothing big booked then I think oh I’m a bit tired so I’ll leave tonight’s run etc.
My dad found running for a charity a massive motivation, he posted a lot of his training runs online or told people what he aimed to do so that he couldn’t jib out!

One of my friends is running 50 miles every month this year to raise money for a charity. He posted a big thing at the start of the year so everyone knew and now he puts the odd update. He finds it massively helped as at the end of the month you can see he has to go do longer runs to rack up the mileage!

Flipping elite athletes! :D:D

On a smaller scale having parkrun on a Saturday & the "long walk" Sunday is keeping this chubby bloke going for now! :D(y)(y)

What happens after completing a marathon? Having trained for several months we will suddenly get Sundays & midweek evening back!!

That's it exactly, I want to do it to get myself back in shape. Since starting a business and having kids I never make the time for myself and have really let myself go.

This way, by not making it about me, I think I'm more likely to succeed. If I get fitter, and lose a few pounds in the process then that's a bonus.

I would definitely put a lot of content online, probably put a bit of a blog/vlog type thing together. Hopefully that would help get others interested in it and increase the amount of donations as well.

Position number 168th, my best ever by a loooong way (normally 300+).... 31minutes and 17secs.....
Having said that it was horrible weather. Rain was hosing down from setting up to the finish. Even my wet was wet !!!
Think that thinned the field down from its normal 450-500 to 256 but I`ll take the position! :):)
