That lurgy I thought had passed the other week, hadn't even started.

I've felt like death for a few weeks and have just found myself pulled round. Went for a little jaunt this afternoon to see how I would fair, and didn't feel too bad.

I will be up at the crack of dawn for my first 10k since early October, wish me luck!

Well, after the rains have stopped and winds subsided, I set out this morning.

Not my best, but I didn't think it was too bad considering the time off for the plague.

Training session Number 3............. some resistance work on an exercise bike then on to more "core" exercises. :(
Things like squats, lunges and leg extensions. Then it was on to floor work.
She insisted that I "work on the abs".... I don`t have "abs" I have a pleasant middle age survival ring!!:D:D
By the time it had finished I was sweating like good one & feeling sick.... no pain, no gain.
I told her I needed a picture for inspiration (and to share with you lot for group inspiration!) ...she sent me this from the gym this AM.

Corrected that for you

(Although I did do a few 10km training runs back in May/June, round circuits)
I tend to need the ambulance after a 5k, as I force myself to run the whole thing and I end up pushing a little too hard at times. The 10k gives me a chance to 'make up' for any breaks I take.

Just a safety tip I got from "work"... The basic way to calculate your maximum heart rate is to subtract your age from 220. For example, if you're 45 years old, subtract 45 from 220 you get a maximum heart rate of 175. This is the "safe" maximum number of times your heart should beat per minute during exercise. She went on to tell me that the heart is "just a muscle" but if you pull it you`ll know about it!!

I have been a fair bit over that at times!! Its easy to let enthusiasm overtake common sense!!

Yeah, I am all too familiar with that rule.

My problem is that I used to be really fit and active, and so my brain still functions at that level.

...my body not so much.

The end result is feeling fine while running, pushing through the barriers and all that jazz, then pretty much collapsing when I stop.

I usually lie down in the recovery position gasping for air until I can breathe at a nor.al rate, then sit up and debrief the family on my run.

@Daniel Larn .... my training lady says "collapsing in a heap" isn`t the best way to wind down. I now walk in little circles (still gasping & panting like an asthmatic Labrador) but it does help the recovery!!
