Just received an email from TFF promoting a company who want to sell farm carbon credits to big industry.

What a bàstard rip off company! Why are TFF promoting companies like this?

On the company's website they give an example of the annual income expected from sales. The annual fee they take is 25%!!!!!!!

It’s not an annual fee, buffer pools are built into the UN ISO legislation to cover non conformance but you get it eventually.

I plant a cover crop of Winter Wheat .. doesn't this mean most of us should be getting £3058+ more money plus back pay for all the previous crops ?

They better get handing out the cash pronto.

If the documentation is stated as a "Fee" then I would say that legally they can take that money and keep it.

Don’t sign up to that. Leave it 12 months and they’ll be a proper market. The supermarket I’ve spoken to are talking significant amounts of money. That offer above is just a joke.

Carbon offset certificates will be a world commodity market that will fluctuate with supply and demand.
what we want to be getting on top of those is money for natural capital and eco system services, growing protocols, standards etc

There are 3 companies in the market - they all advertise with us in one way or another.

They can all put money in farmers pockets rather than taking it off you.

That depends if the money they are putting in farmers pockets is reflective of the value of the product the farmer is providing.

Paying me £10 for a Ming vase is putting money in my pocket, but also ripping me off.

It will stop if no one supports it .

Its an international market and companies like google have been offsetting for 17 years now. It's plenty supported. It's not stopping and once carbon is taxed, it will grow.

Now the ethics behind it are a different matter. The real net gain of planting tree's is vastly wrong (in my opinion). But that's another question.

But this is an instance where farmers get to have the cake and eat it too.

It's something you aren't selling at all right now? And you decide when to sell the credits, they just help you measure. You don't have to sell, just bank the credits. Just as you don't have to sell wheat at harvest, you can store and sell when you want. This is not a perishable item though.

Give it 12 months and you won’t need a broker which is what these companies are.

You don't need a broker now.

All these companies are just systems to help you measure and bank. They will act as broker if you want them to. In fact, they will certainly offer to. But they aren't primarily brokers.

They aren’t. We don’t have to use them to sell anything, they allow you to quantify what you have to sell to Iso standard. They will sell it on your behalf if you ask them to though.
