TFF's ELMS Questions time ? Number 2

Well done on getting them engage with the farming forum. You can see Janet is keen and interested about the future, one extra question I would have asked is if she was vegetarian or vegan. It came over to me from the answers the they were indicating than extra profit will come from less expenses but also expect less production. This doesn’t tie in with not importing more.
Talk is just that at the moment just ask the fishermen and see that they were told and what has happened to them in the last few months

Seems to be a message in there for the supply industry. The glory days are over boys.

I think you are right, I wont be needing much artificial dropped off. or visits from the BCW(Frontier) van, if most of the farm is under Bumblebird and herbal mixtures.

It's not that many years ago, that I was running a fallow/wheat/fallow rotation... Looking like the same is on the way, but the fallow option will be bumblebird for 2-3 years instead.

I can see a few agronomists getting some re-training as "Advisors" for the forthcoming changes

The costs of these mixes will go through the roof .
Personally I’d be very surprised if the big dairy farms and AD plants locally , will jump at these schemes . They need all the feed stocks , maize, rye, beet and grass they can get, and the land to spread slurry or digestate .

That could start getting difficult to comply with reducing machine weight, increasing "no spread" zones and not entering on land too wet......

That's their choice, ELMS isn't BPS, SFP or IACS, it's not compulsory, it's a payment for providing something. If the business model stacks up without it then good on them. More money will be left in the pot for those who do decide to go down the ELMS route.

Funnily enough, I bumped into a guy collecting bits for an AD plant repair today, and he mentioned that his Boss was intending to spread digestate this week come what may. The guy said that they had done this last year, and the land is still growing nothing in area, from compaction!

Interesting how on one hand they want to increase production and not export the problems abroad , but talk about a farmer that has reduced his sheep flock by three quarters to farm more sustainably .
Tell me I’ve missed the point, but if everyone did this, wouldn’t we need to import more sheep meat ( or beef for that matter )
The price of lamb might go up, especially if they banned imports from countries with poor environmental records.

I’d still like to know how they think we are going to stay in production unless there’s a significant increase in the price we get for our produce ( which ain’t going to happen as no government will want food prices to go up).
What about the big gap between BPS reducing and the roll out of the scheme, and why is it taking so long. There’s been years of HLS , mid tier schemes, so they must have an inkling what works and what doesn’t .
Why not agree to maintain payments until the scheme is up and running.
