TFF's ELMS Questions time ?

In the west, we have a plethora of “natural capital” how can you ensure that under Elms, this actually has monetary value? At the moment it feels like areas with no natural capital and massive fields are using stewardship schemes to make their areas look more like ours and are eligible for payment to get the same environmental results we already have.

Seen this for years.

Those who were the most environmentally damaging are getting rewarded for being so.

Even if you did the EA would be the wrong choice....they don’t do work.

I know ... but I thought I'd better not say too much. I've even got some Freedom of Information .. hundreds of papers showing the EA telling the Department of Trade and Industry how to put HS2 through a SSSI - to dodge all the environmental rules which stop the "Plebs".

Farmers being controlled on PK inputs near the SSSI .. yet the source of water is polluted by filtering through an ex coal mine and is full of PK anyway - above limits as soon as it hits the surface. The EA know this but still punish the farmers.

The EA is there to stop ordinary people whilst facilitating the right people .. it's a social control tool.

I’d love to know how Elms will come anywhere near replacing BPS , and how would a tenant farmer like myself , afford to do it without BPS and with rent to pay, if it’s only income foregone .

According to person designing the scheme, It won't come close to replacing BPS. Still not clear how they will square the circle given funding pot meant to be the same all of this parliament. Answer seems partly with productivity grants. Apparently it'll be at levels above income forgone. Not sure how overall finances stack up myself. Govt position is productivity improvements will save the day (and maybe they're assuming rent falls). I found this a very useful watch:

Having been involved with ELMs through the Federation of Cumbria Commoners I am totally confused and very worried.
Not sure if that pompous idiotic mate of Boris and George is trying to stir things up or actually believes what he’s coming out with. Quotes like “people flock to the beaches because the countryside is closed and devoid of wildlife” means he’s probably never been.
The people within DEFRA seem to be still following Gove’s initial plan to get a simple easy to join scheme, but NE are fighting tooth and nail not to lose their stranglehold on British farmers and Goldsmith and Truss are wanting to kill us off completely.
Worrying times, so glad we have Minatte at the NFU and Christopher at the RBST who are fighting our corner and getting good press coverage

I can only see one future and that is a lot less food produced in this country. If say some of these big estates put hundreds or thousands of acres down. It’s amazing how much of these unproductive areas of land will add to overall production nationwide. You would like to think that lower production would lead to higher farm gate but imports will probably take care of that.

...and if hundreds of thousands of acres are put down to this.....where's the diversity in that?! Acres and acres of scrubland taken over by weeds, brambles, gorse etc. A habitat for some, but not for others.

All habitats matter.
