Plenty of those expensive Texel crosses sold yesterday won’t make it to next tupping. How anyone can pay over £120 for a Texel cross yearling is beyond me.then they say theres no money in it..

Have you not seen recent killing ewe prices , they would be nearly that on the hook given a bit more maturity ,
I had £90+ for a crap 50kg underfinished hogg with pasturella damage a few weeks ago
A Flock of Texel cross ewes is only going to average £80 for there culls. So that makes £40 depiction if she doesn’t die. Seems a lot for a ewe that doesn’t lamb very well.

Farmers hate having money..... As soon as they make some on lambs they have to quickly get rid of it on ewes

funny that , i had two pure charollais neighbours texel got in few years back , i kept the ewe lambs as experiment both were gone with bad bags in 3 years ,(one only reared one lamb first year 3/4 charollais got stuck lambing and died ) so you prob have a point

Not a lot wrong with Texel x mules.
If you scored any breed/cross of sheep on every characteristic, the totals would be similar.
It's up to each person to decide which scores matter most for their own circumstances.
yeah, generally breeding trade follows killing trade , doesnt have too tho
also ir it pays to remember that killing trade is a bit like ones accounts as well,.... 'historical'

Depends would be worth 80-90 as a lamb then kept for 12month for 30-40 doesn't sound to far off?

So at the moment I'm getting £100 for my lambs out of texel x ewes I know this will fall as the year progresses but the early lambing flocks have had more my cast ewes have made around the £100 pound mark and people are saying that shearlings are dear at £120, as much as I would like to buy any replacements as cheap as possible, if they aren't a good trade this season then they never will be.
We used to say a shearling should be 2 fat lambs and a hogg 1 and a 1/2 lambs so I don't think they are silly at all.
I still want mine as cheap as possible though [emoji207][emoji6]

Pre covid this spring you could get a swale tup lamb over £100 dw so I would say these yearling sheep want to be at least £120 to make it worth keeping them. Remind me what were the big cull ewes making then - I seem to remember some pretty hairy prices (£200 for a cull ewe was a possibility in some marts!)...

Being sensible a good tex x ewe was £120-£140. Ignore the £200 models. Pure bred terminal culls aren't anything to base replacement costs on. Given the trade I'd have thought £150-£175 for nice shearlings perfectly fair. Passes a bit back up the chain. I've weighed up growing shearlings plenty of times and tbh I'd want every penny of £40 margin over Hogg value in March to take them through to August!

I got a trailer load of tex X theaves at £150/hd, probably £25 up on last year.
Beltex x Charolais theaves were £80+ dearer than last year.
