The benefits of Brexit report out today

The inference that the blue rinse brigade hanker after empire, or as mentioned in post #47 a watered down version of it, is there for many to see, the mere mention of CANZUK is a tip of the hat towards days long gone.
The expansion of the EU is vastly different to the Empire building days of the past, The Brits, Spanish and Portuguese generally carried out a rape and pillage policy, with the vast resources of the countries they conquered going back to the "mother land" keeping their colonies in abject poverty, enabling the Aristocracy to look down on mere mortals with an air of superiority. This is the polar opposite to the EU who tend to financially assist those countries lower down the socio economic scale, lifting their standard of living. Perhaps that's why the blue rinse brigade object so much to the EU, after all we cannot have Jonny foreigner getting above his station in life, it would be enough to make Major Pumpfulroy splutter into his gin and tonic.
TOP, TOP, TOP, post. Well said.
@Danllan CONZUK project manager on behalf of Bungling Boris, won’t be best pleased. His misplaced dewey eyed belief, that Aus, NZ and Canada, are simply frothing at the mouth at the prospect of reinvigorating the commonwealth into a new “Anglosphere” of trade, power and cooperation, is of course to rational people just another pipe dream, and subconscious mental journey back to the Empire.

Stop the press! A couple of whingers are having another dig at the UK... I think we'll survive. :)

But, since you're here... still waiting for your opinion on the EU's hypocrisy in condoning Spain's breaking of its own and EU law regarding human rights... no comment?

Can you link to a single person who has said they hanker for a return of the empire. The only empire builders are the EU,
You should have watched Question Time a week last Thursday, bloke in a yellow shirt said " Woss the EU got to do with it? (the border/protocol) Ireland is ours, its always been ours we should never have given the South bit away"!

Maybe not for a few years but English is the language of business, the air and the sea and has been for years. I have been on holiday where you have folk from different european countries when they speak to each other it's always in English as that is the common language they all learn.
When we go abroad I always try and use at least some of the local one, its partly why we go to France as I can get by reasonably well, but most will speak to you in English, probably less so in rural areas

let me know when you are visiting the Czech Republic please 👍

on my very recent travels I stopped off in Brittany and I was really taken aback by folk speaking some English. No one speaks a word in our agricultural back water🤔

Her inquiry findings include that Mr Johnson brought the cheese and wine to the garden gathering on May 15 2020 from his own flat.

She found that former proprietary and ethics chief Helen MacNamara provided a karaoke machine for a Cabinet Office gathering where one individual was sick and there was a "minor altercation" between two others.

And this is being compared to a curry in a constituency office during work! FFS

deflect deflect?!
Not at all, but it's like trying to have a rational conversation about evolution with a priest. They'll ignore all the evidence and carry on with their preferred narrative, one for reasons I really don't know, the other because he's either what he's termed himself as - a 'contrarian' troll - or still sulking about Brexit. (or maybe both...)

Mrs Czech just reading, there used to be quite an Iceland presence in the Czech Republic but due to all the supply issues they have decided to close down their Czech operation/stores. 🤷‍♂️

which just reminds me, my ex asked if I could make our youngest‘s graduation (a year late due to Covid) as she couldn’t due to a trip to Iceland. I said I could and I was incredibly impressed at her level of organisation that she knew months in advance her schedule of going to the supermarket. 😂

With each passing moment these days, I get ever more convinced, that what‘s now unfolding in the higher echelons of British politics, is a mirror image of that which prevailed during the collapse of the Roman Empire. Power going right back to the pinnacle of the Empire has utterly corrupted the system. The dunces in charge today, are the entitled scions of the establishment. Never worked a proper days work in their lives, and neither did several generations before them. Today, the whole thing is a hotbed of lies, deceit, ineptitude, incompetence, entitlement, corruption, nepotism, and whatever else.
Come to think of it, all empires pretty much fall in the same manner, to the extent that eventually all which exists, resides within the pages of history. Britain is no different. And why should it? It for all its inglorious history, it deserves no less a character than Boris, to project its ignominious end to a watching and increasingly disinterested world.

You think politicians in Ireland (North or South), the EU or anywhere else in the world are any better or less corrupt? The upper classes in this world are, by and large, totally corrupt, stemming from a love of money and power and a desire to keep the plebs in their place. The whole world is heaving with corruption.

It isnt the reserve of the upper class, look at what goes on in local councils and even small businesses, where money is involved there are always corrupt people, even the church isnt immune it seems

Oops...
Ralph Goodale, Canada’s high commissioner to the U.K. said if Britain wants more access to Canadian markets for its cheese as part of a bilateral free-trade agreement, it will have to knock on Brussels’ door and get its part of the dairy quota back .
"The point is we have already provided that volume in the EU deal and the British left it there without taking it with them," he said. "That’s an issue they need to resolve with the Europeans because the Europeans have their quota.”

Mr Goodale said U.K.’s request for extra access for For 🇬🇧 Cheese - on top of access given to the EU — is “what the 🇨🇦 negotiators consider to be pretty much a dead end.”

“You are talking about a double concession — one we have already made to the EU and the request is being made by the U.K. for yet another one on top of that"

Do stop old boy. Don’t you know all the long lost cousins, are literally on their knees, to be allowed back to the bosom of the mother kingdom. Fear not, this silly Mr. Ralph Goodale, will see the light, when @Danllan chairman of the CONZUK steering committee, outlines the detailed plans, for the new “Anglosphere” of cultural and trading nations. All run by and bossed of course by the top Tories in London.

Many of the politicians in the rest of the world have not had an Eton education and an upbringing of privilege and entitlement.
