The Best colourant to use?

I have water running into a ditch, I am trying to locate its source, and was wondering if anyone one had any advice on a colourant, or the best way to find its source?

A snippet of information dredged out of the deepest recesses of my memory. Years ago I was working on a farm near Wootton Basset and talking to a water engineer who said that the water coming out of the hill on the farm actually came from Wales via an underground route beneath the Severn. Sounds pretty amazing but I remember him saying it had been proven by use of a very strong dye called
Urinine; no I am not taking the pee and I have spelled it right! Googling it comes up with it as Urinine Flourescence Tracer. Probably no use to you but pleased me that my memory seems still to be working.

If you’ve got that much water then I would think a UV dye of some sort might be the one. Go out at night with a black light should be easier. How you inject it into the source I don’t know.

On this day in 1864, the English explorer Samuel White Baker, along with his wife Florence, discovered one of the world’s great lakes lying between modern day Uganda and Congo, on an expedition searching for the source of the River Nile.

If that's any help.
Great piece of information.... Sadly they never did find the source of the Nile, it was actually found many years later by a British trio of explorers, James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

Have used Fluorescein in the past, again UV fluorescent. They use it to stain your eyes when looking for scratches or other damage to your eyeballs.

You’ll get different coloured dyes at any drainage/pipe supplier. Or order it online, I’ve got Horobin blue tracer dye, its about £8.

A little bit goes a very long way, especially when you remember the dilution rate the wrong way round.

I put 15ml in 5 litres of water, should have been 5ml in 15 litres :ROFLMAO:

Hands ended up looking like a smurfs.

Exactly why I need to find where the water is heading, as I know the source, yet it’s not coming out where expected too!
