Finally got round to getting the old cattle buildings ready for around 2000 b&b pigs.

First starting to empty!
This buildings had cubicles removed a few years ago.

Cubicles have been taken down from in here this week - all ready for @Thick Farmer to give them a second life!

Still a bit to do yet!

Will keep this updated with progress.

No I'll be keeping it - far too handy for wall making!

No - using concrete panels.

Hope so!

Figures look good - it's about the only thing I can get to pay in the buildings anyway!

Not much in - but thought panels were a better long term investment.
Much more flexible for us - if the pigs stop paying after 5 years, panels can be used for grain walling etc.

Hoping out will work well for us.
Going for larger pens than the norm - but I'm confident I can make it happen.

Whatever - bqp ( or equivalent send us! ).
Will either be tasking them from 7 kg through to 100 kg on a 21 week cycle, or from 35 kg to 100 kg on a 12 week cycle.

We're planning on 4 pens of around 420 to start with - if that works well a few more next time and so on til it's 500 per pen.

I'll look into HM pigs - thanks for the heads up - not heard of them before.

be interested to here how you get on with that number per pen, IME its not much fun once you start getting over 200 and toward 250 but could just be to do with the way ours is set up.

A friend of ours has 2000 for BQP, in 4 sheds of 500 each with 12 pens in each shed with around 40 in each pen (we supply the straw and get all the muck back )
