Hercules, Apaches and chinooks mostly going over me. I’ve been trying for years to get a good photo of an Apache but they keep just out of range of my phone 😂

Chinooks make my house shake as they go over low. The Hercules are usually going to a drop zone on the plain, it’s not unusual for the back door to be open and you can sometimes see the guys getting ready to jump.

Go up to Enford to the biggest army tennant to do avadex always look forward to seeing the army stuff moving about as well as most years seeing the great bustards . Have to map my route from the farm with the gps to some fields as it can take 20 minutes to get to them across the army tracks as could easily get lost out there .

I get the training helicopters come down here nearly at 2 hour intervals when doing training usually in pairs start off in daylight in trainers then night time they then move up to apaches doing the same usually make the telly go haywire when they are about .

So all the headlines are saying? Dont get me wrong i think the armed forces do a great job, i support them 100 percent, but come come how many are tankerdriver qualified? i bet its not many, its a great headline but as always, when you dig below the surface they are hollow words?
The Army is more than capable of driving tankers of fuel up and down the country ,do you really think they all run around Salisbury Plain shouting bang?
What do you think all those vehicles and aircraft run on? not to mention transporting things considerably more dangerous than petrol .

Are they sitting at home on the dole?
No probably not, that's why you make them a good offer to come back.
There were rumours a while back that one of the big fuel companies were pushing drivers out in favour of agency replacements. So the shortage probably makes sense as agency drivers work for the highest bidder and are very sought after at the moment.
I've also seen a couple of shift patterns, that the transport companies think are acceptable and they're flat out stupid.
Fuel delivery used to be something to work towards as it was near the top of the ladder. The fuel companies have made it just another job.
Don't know what its like here now but a few years ago you could make more per hour hauling milk than petrol.
