Bollox. (Binary...unless you are German).Europe were using the decimal system. You followed suit
Well you learn something every day. It's like pasta. The italians are all pasta this, pasta that but it was actually invented by a chap called Keith Pasta in Exeter, UK in 1978. Not a lot of people know that.
Only got two hands and two feet. I must be unusual, perhaps because I was born in Yorkshire.Bollox. (Binary...unless you are German).
We've always had 10 digits, hands and feet. (Except those from Norfick).
Imagine female atheletes lining up to do the 100m, bending over in those tight fiting shorts, they run for about 10 seconds.
Do that 10x and it's 1km.
Easy, if you don't get distracted.
From the tip of your fingers to your elbow is a cubit. Noah used this when he built his ark and it is now considered to be 18" in new money or about 450mm if you have gone foreign. The thing is, I have a foot on the end of each leg, 3 feet is a yard etc. If I want to be really accurate I have a thumb, bend it over, from the bend to the end,1 inch, simple, always worked for me.
This newfangled metric metre, centimetre garbage, I haven’t got a convenient bit of anatomy that fits but it is easy to work out with a calculator when I’ve converted the feet and inches to metres in my head.
Progress, eh!!
decimalisation was not introduced due to the eu but because of computerisation50 years ago tomorrow the UK went European stopped 'old money' and went decimal.
The old British Pound was made up of 20 shillings, each of which was made up of 12 pence, a total of 240 pence
Now, thanks to Brexit, you can go back to that far simpler way of life

C`mon Muley, be generous. Six centimetres don`t you mean?Take a look at what a centimetre really is, be honest with yourself and have another think.

Oh!I was thinking the width of my pinkie finger.
In a world class field you would still be 7% out, but who cares?Imagine female atheletes lining up to do the 100m, bending over in those tight fiting shorts, they run for about 10 seconds.

at that time teaching changed it methods chanting table and learning by rote
in those days wheat was sold in tons
1 shilling a hundedweight was £1 a tonne worked really well
my father learnt decimalisation at school in 1948 so it was not that new in 1972
£1 is still £1
Wat annoys me is when people say "one pence". Ffs, pence is plural, what they should say is "one penny". Another thing is that people say "two pence" and "three pence". Technically correct of course but It was always pronounced " tuppence" and "thruppence".
