The casual labour situation, crisis or no problem?

After a lot of noise about the forcoming crisis in veg and fruit production a few months ago, it’s all gone very quiet. Have producers managed to get enough foreign labour in, has the appeal for furloughed workers been a success, what’s happening out there?

I used a company/agency for rouging last year and they sent a letter out a few weeks ago asking for work because they had so many people sorted and enough for them to do

Suddenly the thought of working in the fresh air is not frowned upon or sneered at.
Some good has come from this crisis then.

Indeed, but it's not permenant work and we're facing the worst recession in 300 years, many on furlough are already redundant and they don't know it.

I hope most of those pickers are offered full-time jobs.

Theres no shortage of work once they have learnt to bend their back
Fruit picking, winter veg, spuds, Tree planting, the calendar is full

Not many are able to do it, travel across the country yet somehow afford childcare, mortgage, rent etc. Its ok if you're a 20 something with no kids but if you're a40 year old with kids and a mortgage you might not be able to do it
