The Cockerel that couldn't Crow -Domestic poultry

Herself bought a few pullets and a cockerel 18 months ago. Pretty, but useless last year, but getting a steam up on the eggs now. :)

The Cockerel had never really been able to crow properly, just a faint crow could be heard, but since last Autumn, he has lost his voice completely. She noticed the other day (as did I) that he now looks a bit ropey, stands and produces a wheezy noise. Plumage and feathering is great, plenty of meat on him so in good nick really and not losing condition.

TBH, we expected to find him dead in the morning with these cold nights, but he keeps on going. I did suggest a drop of Alamycin LA, (kill or cure) but how to get it in him? Commercial poultry use oral antibiotics I know, but not got those in the medicine cabinet!!
