The Cross slot vs 750a trial

Location

After managing to get every drill wrong last time, I'm not going to even try. (n)

Looks like quite a poor result from one drill, but it could still give the highest yield yet, 333 plants/m2 is fine.
Seed rate was intentionally high due to large BG pressure

In a way it's a shame that one is so different, as you say, this could potentially effect yield even though it's "worse"

First lot of plant counts are now in. These were done by ProCam, I wasn't there and had no influence on sites etc, apart from telling them where the different plots were. Maybe we should have another sweep stake? Here are the results, I'll reveal what's what later today.

A = 405 plants/m2 = 84% germination
B = 333 plants/m2 = 69% germination
C = 396 plants/m2 = 83% germination

My instincts tell me that the CS and JD are A and C and your old drill is B. If so, it's simply a tine vs a disc. The difference between A and C is negligible so it's a coin toss which one each is.

If either CS or JD is B then I have no idea what's going on.

And CS vs CO8

It's up at the top end of the field where the ground is much easier working. All of it looks good.

I'm surprised at the lack of difference in growth between all the drills, in the pictures they seem very similar. I've always found the Moore drill I had produced noticeably less growth in the autumn than my Simtech and the GD drill now produces even less still.

I agree and the figures are only interesting if one of the disc drills slipped up.

Just had info on a second count that has been done on a different part of the field. The first was on the heavier end, these are from the lighter:

CS - 365 plants/m2 - 76% germination
750a - 340 plants/m2 - 71% germination
CO8 - 426 plants/m2 - 87% germination

Obviously you care enough to read this thread ;)

I know and I'm disappointed in myself, I get the hollow feeling an addict gets after his fix!

I'm amazed at how much forensic detail the dedicated arable man can put into his drill or his combine (Feldspars thread)?!

Claydon, direct after linseed on the left, sub soiled and drilled after potatoes on the right, drilled within a few days of each other, drill has worked in both conditions admirably, picked it up out of the farmers weekly ads after a trial and a couple of months thought! [emoji6]

I would have thought, especially given your photographic background (no, that is not a pun), that at least you could have got your dog to face the camera. As the French say, "Nil points."

Interesting that the 750 is the only one that performed better in the heavier soil.
