We loose less now than what we did

But my dad says 20-30 year ago when it was very cheap they’d put 200weight on if you couldn’t see your tyre marks in the grass when shepherding

Personally, and yes I am a layperson who doesn't on paper know his arse from his elbow: but I believe we should be actively looking to boost the level of active diversity in the soils, not continue to do something as we fear it is our only hope.

Reason that I feel this, is that I would hope we could continue to find new organisms / bacteria / fungi that can potentially help develop new Anti Biotics, as we're all f**ked without finding new ones.

Alchemy: transforming base metals into gold.
This is just the modern version, where ‘visionaries’ try to sell us high margin magic potions to make fools part with their money. Think Blackadder (series 2) where Percy is trying to make gold and says “Behold! Can it be true that I hold in my mortal hand a nugget of purest Green?!”, and you’ll get the idea, on several levels.

Surely development of anything relys on people willing to be early adopters.... Moving away from the nay sayers who can potentially hold back systems of evolution.

If we all choose to ignore possibilities and cling to what we know, nay scratch that; are personally comfortable with, then surely we will remain numb to making the necessary changes we need going forward.

Happily some independent research is done in N America:

However, research at the University of Minnesota has shown that in most cases those products are ineffective and do not live up to the expectation.

When thinking about using these products we recommend doing a replicated strip trial before integrating them into your entire operation. To see these products make a difference and pay for themselves, consider contacting a local or regional Extension Educator, or your crop adviser to help you set up a trial and interpret the results.

Oh hang on a minute, that AHBD that has a disastrous effect on certain people's dander has done some research:

Across the 11 product types, there was also evidence for increased nutrient uptake (N, P or other), plant function (hormone effects, anti-transpirant effects, delayed senescence or improved photosynthesis), abiotic stress tolerance (salt, alkaline, drought or cold stress), and biotic stress tolerance (induced or physical against pathogens or pests). The majority of product type groups had at least some evidence available for these effects on cereal crops, but consistently less information available for OSR crops. Many product types also had some level of a plant protectant role against pathogens or pests. There is limited information available on the most appropriate rates, timings and
