Finally got my flail head fitted to the excavator. Bought it years ago bu wasn't sure my machine could provide the hydraulic flow required, but thought I'd have a go anyway. Seems to be fine, no sign of oil heating, slewing and moving the dipper is a bit slower while the flail is running, but perfectly manageable.View attachment 479360 View attachment 479362

Its a swinging hammer head yes, but to be honest its not as heavy duty as I would like, it is Italian after all:rolleyes::rolleyes: It only has a pulley drive, I might swap the pulleys for a toothed flat belt if that proves a problem. And I've got to source some spare hammers for it somewhere, I can't see the exact ones on flails direct. But I know they do something that will fit, its just the bushes that I'm struggling to find in the right size at the mo. But at the end of the day I'm not planning to try and flail a forest, just use it on hedges when I can't get on with the tractor, so it doesn't need to be as strong as a Osma or Berti head.

Oooooohhhhhh! An Akerman! I'm jealous already.

How long have you had that?

Yes, may well do that if folk would be interested?

We spoken about a respray. It's hard to decide, on the one hand it really deserves it, on the other, it's actually not that bad once it's had a good clean up, 28 years old this year, not bad considering, almost 17k hours on the clock. So I don't know, keep it in working clothes or spruce it up:scratchhead:, only trouble with a respray is it would need to be done right, a quick blow over would just look rubbish IMO.
But hopefully time will allow to at least take the cab off and give it a refurb, iits not rotten at all by any means, but these things deteriorate without you noticing if your not careful, and it's the bit that would suffer the most from rust, so I think that's worthwhile, and not a massive job.
Leave original!!!!!!
Youve got enough to do mate..
