The dos & don'ts of shed building?

Last year we got permission to knock down some of our old sheds and replace them with new.

The first shed we are doing is going to be just a general storage shed so we have somewhere dry and secure (something none of our existing sheds manage) to store everything as we replace other sheds.

This is the first time we've had a brand new shed so just looking for a bit of advice on what you have found works or things you wish you had done differently from those with the experience? Its 11 x 11m and 4m to the eaves

my experience for what its worth , number one galvanised steel everytime it may cost a little more but in the overall cost of the project its well worth it, Number two dont ever have another building joined on in the future so forming a valley gutter down one side, I have thinkiing at the time it would save a row of stantions, it overflows into the building every time we have heavy rain thus flooding the building and water lays in the middle with plant debi slowly rotting the valley gutter.

Sorry I should have said because of the area we are under a lot of planning restrictions as far as overall size goes. We have permission for 3 more bigger sheds but everything is restricted to 4m :-(

I'd like to say I'm going to put it up myself but I can already hear my wife's voice saying 'you don't have time to do half the jobs you need to do let alone taking on something you don't' so realistically I'll be getting someone in.

4m to eaves is low, i hope you have a steepish roof pitch,I guess you must be in the peak park but surely you can justify higher than 4 to eaves arguing the point the footprint can be reduced

Argue the toss over the height, even if it means designing it with a 'lean to' on either side with an eaves height of 4m, which will allow the main shed to have an internal wall height of 6 ;)

Planning was hard work let me tell you; 4m eaves, 15 degree pitch, even the number of skylights had to be reduced.

Sadly we are in a Special Landscape Area and World Heritage Site which translates to be grateful for what you get.

Leave a nice wide door for getting machinery in and out, (roller shutter if the budget allows)
Leave a small access door to the side.
Non drip sheeting on the roof.
Reinforced concrete wall around in lieu of blocks or sheeting to the ground.
If you ever intend to use it as a workshop in future, put in a power floated conc floor, loads of plug sockets, 110v & 220v. Plenty of lights.
Happy building!

I was wondering about roller shutter doors but the ones I've seen have been a bit noisy in the wind and our house backs onto the yard.

Are they all that way or are some better than others?

The spec here would be.
Pallets as walls. Asbestos for roof both recycled.
A extension run in for elec and hose for water.
Earth floor . not necessarily level
All self erected with as little cost as possible
All uprights from telegraph poles. Dig a hole and back fill with. Earth. Shingle.
Purlings wood having been stripped off an old shed leaking roof ( along with the asbestos sheets) .and hammeredflat purling then turned 180degrees.and sheets screwed in .
Ensure any gutterings. Run away from down pipes Which are blocked. And not cleared
