How much has he drunk?I have 20mm in my dog bowl which is 65mm high and the diameter is 190mm at the top and 150mm at the bottom. How much rain have i had?
32mm if none splashed out.I have 20mm in my dog bowl which is 65mm high and the diameter is 190mm at the top and 150mm at the bottom. How much rain have i had?
Mmm, could I see your workings for that.32mm if none splashed out.
area of a circle is pi r2, so the ratio of the area of top of the dogs bowl to the bottom is a ratio of the square of each diameter (pi and half being constant) So 20mm x 190 squared, divided by 150 squared is 32mm.
probably haven't explained myself very well. i just did 20 x 190 x 190 / 150 / 150 = 32.
Edit - But I haven't taken into account the slope of the sides, but I'm guessing we are only be approximate.
Should be 20 x 190 x 190 / 156.5 / 156.5 = 29.5mm.
32mm if none splashed out.
He had 20mm in the bowlRoughly 20mm by my guess.
32 *(150^2)/(190^2), with a bit taken off for the slopes sides.
He had 20mm in the bowl
15mm in round figures my guess.
I was assuming you had got the equation the right way round, was just wondering how you had worked out how much the dog had drunk!area of a circle is pi r2, so the ratio of the area of top of the dogs bowl to the bottom is a ratio of the square of each diameter (pi and half being constant) So 20mm x 190 squared, divided by 150 squared is 32mm.

13.5mmI have 20mm in my dog bowl which is 65mm high and the diameter is 190mm at the top and 150mm at the bottom. How much rain have i had?
Of course you are correct.Other way round - it’s narrower at the base than the top, so logically the depth in the bowl will be more than the rainfall has been.
