Does anyone know about the ownership of this publication? This is not the first anti-meat article I have seen from them. I think there must be a hidden agenda.

Is there a media regulator to complain to like the ASA?

I've no idea but it's the ongoing march of the propaganda machine where outright lies become accepted as fact. It may be that they haven't been @rsed to do any actual fact checking. Doubt it though. They must have quoted a source for that diagram?

And of course, they are only displaying one side of the see saw. How much carbon does global air travel sequester?

Well done for bringing this to our attention @Poncherello1976. Can we have a "sticky" thread I think it is called where we could source help to counter the anti-farming lobby? E.g. templates for letter writing to M.P.s C.E.Os etc that state simple truthful facts. The farming community are few in number nowadays and seem to be the go to whipping boy for all societies ills, even though there are many television programmes about farming.

It seems to me that those that shout the loudest and most often are listened to and their message is heard and repeated ad nauseum regardless of the truth or lies they seek to spread. We need to counter this ourselves because no one else will.

Someone put a link up to C. Pack mans lies yet, the general public cannot get enough of this idiot and hypocrite. He recently has made allegations that he is being targeted, almost certainly untrue, but the general public will have heard this and believed it because I can only assume they no longer question anything. Now is the time to fight back with facts and the truth, we cannot bury our heads in the sand and hope it will all go away. I think it was @Grass And Grain that started a thread about fighting back against Red Tractor.

I might not always agree with what @delilah says but we will have to work together to stop this seemingly endless tirade of lies against farming and our way of life, enough of the general public like to watch programmes about farming and Jeremy Clarksons programme seems to have been well received, sorry for the rant I just think we need to do something ourselves, and now Angus.

Writing and grammer is not my forte, so apologies for any errors.

The ecomomist have been writing crap like that for years.
An old school friend works for them making films and made what he called “the truth” about meat.
Seemed more like “his truth” or George Monbiots “truth”

I subscribe to the Economist and read that silly article on beef.

I have written a letter to the editor arguing against it, will be interesting to see if it gets published!

I believe the Economist owner owns a 2000 acre estate in rural Shropshire.

The thing is, The Economist is only repeating the message constantly trotted out by UK ag.

https://www.carbonbrief.org/countdown-to-2025-tracking-the-uk-coal-phase-out

Around 4 gigawatts (GW) of capacity has closed this year, leaving 15GW able to operate today. Together, these remaining plants emitted 53m tonnes of CO2 in 2015, around 11% of total UK greenhouse gas emissions that year.

Now, go and read any of the 'publicity' material from the NFU and AHDB. They constantly state that UK livestock contribute 6% and crops 4% to UK GHG emissions.

According to your national representative bodies, cows are as bad as coal. So what's the fuss ?
It's not the BBC, it's not vegan propaganda, it's not The Economist. This industry is a joke when it comes to promoting itself. Until the apologizing stops, nothing will change.

It's not professionally done, it's amateurish and it's poorly laid out. But at least it doesn't fecking apologize.

The Agnelli family's Exor paid £287 million to raise their stake from 4.7% to 43.4%, while the Economist paid £182 million for the balance of 5.04 million shares which will be distributed to current shareholders.[5] Aside from the Agnelli family, smaller shareholders in the company include Cadbury, Rothschild (21%), Schroder, Layton and other family interests as well as a number of staff and former staff shareholders.[5][6]
