Does no one any good in a bank accounts

Oh but you are so very wrong, in times like this

It pays to have plenty of savings, cash liquidity at present ....now the shite has well & truly hit the fan

I would sooner have £100k in deposits now, rather than £100k spent (wasted) on a RR or even paying £36k to rent one for 3 years

Like private plates - another pretentious waste of money

If CV19 is prolonged, I have cash to survive - I cannot eat a RR or let alone drive it more than 10-15 miles at present

A £10k 5 year old decent car and paid for, lump of limited use metal car in the yard is far better than next month’s £500 PCP rental and another £500 to road tax the bloody thing

We are all so different. Feel good factor for me is buying a car for a thousand pounds. Five years later still going perfect, with just a bit of normal servicing and tyres. And it was originally quite an expensive car Audi TDI v6 quattro.... wish finding a bargain reliable tractor was so easy?

Me too

Reverse snobbery to see how much others are wasting each month ‘renting’ shiny metal cars

I agree that there have been some terrific finance deals on new cars, possibly too good and it is the manufacturers who will suffer as they provide the finance. There will be a lot of defaults/missed payments/extensions. The used cars they get back may be worth less than they budgeted for as more cars are returned and flood the market at a time when demand is reduced as people hang onto older vehicles for longer. On top of this manufacturing has stopped and new car sales will take some time to recover.
Quite a storm coming their way

You only get the horror stories on the interweb, the majority of people are buying these things and doing lots of miles with them without incident.

Audi TDI is a known quantity, loads of pattern parts and plenty specialists about, happy days.

Whoever told you that is a blithering idiot to be blunt. Thousands of business’s are going to fail and even the business’s who are using the 80% wage grant will will be at record levels when this is done and dusted.

Whos going to be buying these used cars etc when living off universal credit.

And nobodies mentioned the housing market yet. That’s completely rolloxed. Easily we could see 50% drop in values because there won’t be any buyers.

It may depend on the buyer, I choose to buy old cars and run them til death, the money is hardly worth mentioning.

My wife travels 20k a year as a social worker, life will have to continue for her as per normal.

She usually bought new cars and took them til 150k. Current one has 180k.

So you win euro million you are telling me you wont move house, change car or change your life at all ? Nothing will change but you will keep a load off cash in the bank ? .................. how sad ........... maybe you shoulhd reevaluate what life is about ?

fancy cars are not everyone’s thing but the hire vs buy works regardless of price in relative terms IF the hire deal is right

I’m looking at options on hire vs buy on my next car right now and hire actually looks the more expensive option this time so will probably buys

Why invest in a depreciating asset Clive?
I understand your logic but you contradict yourself once the wind changes.

First post I've wanted to like multiple times.

I know a wealthy chap, he revels in running old cheap tractors and cars. Has a yard full of them. Doubt the lot would add up to the price of one new item but he likes the challenge of running the old stuff. Downtime is never an issue either all he does is go get another one out of the shed to keep him going and fixes the broken one wen he gets round to it.
I have a relation who’s somewhere in the 200’s on the rich list, he’s never bought a car for himself for more than £1,000 and buys his clothes from charity shops.
When off on holiday he checked with the transport manager where lorry’s were going that day and hitched a lift with driver who was passing the airport.
A book could almost certainly be wrote on his money saving.

I wasn’t talking about a £100k R
That is excessive and simply garish - to most folk
I was talking about mr Normal with a £10k 3 year old family car
You must move in different circles, to most here ...where image is more important than common sense

the average car bought by the average guy costs more than 10k - plenary of new cars are sold every year

The example stands the sane for a 25k car as it does a 100k car

how can it pay to have savings if you have a 15-20% return business and bank interest on your savings of maybe 1% ? You may not have noticed but any savings you might have invested have just fallen off a cliff, most pensions are worth half of what they were a month ago and base rate is now 0.25%........... will probably go negative within the 12 months and then your savings are going to start costing* you !,

your savings are already not even keeping up with inflation, savings are a REALLY bad thing to have right now ! Most people’s savings are worth a fraction of what they were ..........you really think they are a good idea ???

no wonder not many are buying 100k cars with this level of economic / finance understanding !

i’m saying exactly that - don’t own depreciating assets if there is a cheaper way to acquire use / hire them,

on the new car i’m looking at the hire looks expensive vs ownership .......... the risk however is value in 3 years time when i want to sell

If you have a small penis, its all you can do to make up for it.

No one “needs” a car worth more £500 which is enough to buy something that will provide transport

I bet most of you have a car worth significantly more however ! Do you all have small dicks ?

Probably either cause they trying to Impress their neighbour or got an exceptionally small weaner!!!!

how about simply because I can afford to ? Shocking I know and I make no apologies if that offends ! I work hard, can earn good money and spend i5 however I choose thanks

I need 20k safe and reliable miles a year with family, an ability to drive across a field if required, tow a decent trailer , fit a coupe of digs in the back and it does all that very well

it’s nothing special, not a car that I would expect to “impress” anyone . In fact I’ve never really liked it much and look forward to changing it soon. It’s a car I very rarely drive in fact

I’ve got a massive dick... i Drive a bloody Mitsubishi shogun.... I also like nice things and if i had the cash would rent a ranger rover. Didn’t @Drillman buy a new ute when yours was only a coupe of years old? Why did you do that? Life is about choice. You can gain money by investing 500 quid in the right thing. You might want to make money to enjoy good things. Or you may want to be miserable , work every hour, moan at anyone that dares to walk near you. Tell everyone how tight you are.... you don’t save money by not buying a few drinks at your own funeral!
