Did anyone see the hay .How can anyone comment if they have not seen the hay
I've just looked for it on I-player. Right at the start of this section (about 18.30 mins) he says 'it's not quite ready to make hay, but we are going to make haylage. There is torrential rain forecast tomorrow.'

Somewhat surprised that @startinghandle felt that a farmer with GWT's experience perhaps didn't know that hay with too much sap in would go mouldy or catch if not wrapped.

Gareth Wyn Jones is a decent guy but I would not let him do any hay making for me because I have just seen him making small bale hay and it was very green ,... big fire risk and if it does not burn it could go mouldy..

Worked on a farm in Buckinghamshire in the early 80s where the old boy insisted that we made 18000 small bales green. On the bottom layer we had to leave about 2ft square open every so often then on each layer above we sprinkled salt and when the barn was full, a massive fan was backed up to the stack and air pumped through the holes on the bottom layer.
Steamed like a dysfunctional sauna but the "hay" when we fed it out was sweet and the stuff was the colour of tobacco.

if you know what good hay is , but you didn't hear / see the bit where he said 'going to make haylage' , it would be a fair assumption that it was balled too soon !

I only saw the clips of the guys hand loading bales on to a trailer , they looked very heavy and fluffy, I said to my OH that looks more like hayalge , I wondered if it was more a case that they needed a few bales to play with for the camera?

so the OP is not wrong in their observation, and naturally drew a conclusion............

I only apologise if I said or did something wrong.... I remember a farm by Welshpool making big bales which was fresh and wrapping and stacking and 34 days later it went up in smoke, and it is always around 34 days when it goes up.... yes I heard GWJ saying he was making haylage
