I have made it clear to all of those I deal with and particularly DEFRA employees and consultants that I wish to be identified as a food producer when they seek to call me a farmer.
( For the benefit of anyone who may have missed the point, there is such a massive disconnect between the consumer and the source of their food that they do not realise that farmers are the source of their food. Hence the need for farmers to be rebranded as food producers.)
Try it, if nothing else there is some sport to be had with DEFRA employees who will all have had diversity and unconscious bias training ( whatever that is) at the taxpayers expense.

Err, just because you are a farmer it doesn’t automatically mean you produce food . . .
I know a LOT of people who produce fibre ( either cotton or wool ), who identify as “farmers” & proudly so

Not an industry here, but I gather a lot of farmers in the UK grow products for AD plants ?
How many UK farmers provide camping, wedding venues, land stewardship, environmental benefits etc etc ? The service agriculture provides to the community go far beyond just “food”.
Isn’t that the justification for a lot of your payments & schemes ?

I’ve sold 700 tonne of grain sorghum ( normally a feed grain ) that as I write, is being loaded into shipping containers bound for China, to make some sort of nasty alcohol from

a lot of vegetable oils end up in industrial use, pharmaceutical or cosmetic industries . . .

agriculture / farming is a LOT more far reaching than just “food”.
People don’t really care about “food” - it’s just cheap & always available

by concentrating on just food in trying to promote agriculture, I think you actually do your industry a disservice
