Whilst I agree with @tepapa it's nice to get as much timber in the ground as possible, you can only do your best with the available kit and materials, at your disposal. I can only get 8ft strainers and struts as special order these days, and in most of the ground I fence in I wouldn't get it in far enough with my kit, sure better kit is a problem thats easily solved with £50-60k, rock augers, tracked machine, low loader etc. But the last contractor on this job used a parmiter rammer on a fordson dexta, and its been stockproof for 30 odd years. Didn't say how long it took him thoughI have a 3 foot gas pipe only 1.2 under the surface here. If we get any posts in 2 foot 6 we think we are doing well here. Anything more needs a digger.
Can anyone advise me where is the best place get heavy underground cable? Ive always had heavy stuff thats 9mm outside. My supplier only has 2.5 cable thats about 4 or 5mm outside.
You putting tie backs on them?
I can imagine if the fence were vertical, it would be possible for the likes of deer to think nothing of trotting along and bouncing themselves over. Whereas with this, it is likely they would think twice before trying to jump over it, because it's not just an up and over, they've got to get some distance to get over to the other side. Is that the thinking with this fence or is there another reason behind the angling of the stumps?
The contractor who is doing the trellis wires will tie them down with Gripple anchors and GPaksYou putting tie backs on them?
Sorry, I should have said. They are end posts on rows of grape vines. Customer didn't want metal posts on the ends for aesthetic reasons. Good idea though for a one way fenceI can imagine if the fence were vertical, it would be possible for the likes of deer to think nothing of trotting along and bouncing themselves over. Do you think it is better to put the tension springs in the middle of the run, rather than the end? I put them in at the end.
I notice you have used the metal clips, rather than the plastic insulators on the fibreglass posts, I wonder which are better? I used the plastic ones (partly as the metal ones were out of stock).
Did you run out of netting or us that just your way to tie off?View attachment 982035
The spiteful pain of inadequate length, now I know how my wife feels.
Replacing a rotten slamming post and strainer that was hard stapled.Did you run out of netting or us that just your way to tie off?
That rail holder looks a handy bit of kit.View attachment 982035
