The Flu jab

With it being the start of autumn in the northern hemisphere it must be getting closer to flu season.
Will everyone who got the Covid vaccine get their jab?
Who gets it, who doesn't bother?

Being nearly ancient rather than actually ancient I don't get one as of right, yet. but am allowed one due to my mother living with us.

I don't like the 'free prescriptions for all' set-up here in Wales, so I get my flu jab done privately by a local pharmacist.

Who is getting offered it in the UK this year? Seams to be a thing that once was reserved for the elderly and vulnerable which is now being used a lot more. Suspect this is now going the same way as the covid vaccine. People who don't take it will be vilified for spreading flu, even though this has been going on for years without a mention

Anyone can get one if they pay for it can't they?
About 15 quid?
Used to get mine through work but happily pay for it since I left. Mrs KP gets one through her work.

Yes, it's open to all adults who choose to pay, a bit less than that last year I think.

I only pay because I think our current system wherein everyone gets free prescriptions is daft. (y)

It is daft and actively encourages waste, but I’ll still take it for free (or rather paid from my taxes) given the option.

I had it for the first time last year. I wasn’t particularly bothered, but then Mrs NeilO had hers and reported back on how they were doing it. I drove up and was jabbed through the car window on the road outside the GP’s surgery. I was shocked at how efficiently it was being done, considering the state of the NHS in Wales, and especially how useless our local surgery normally is.

I seem to recall hearing on the radio some time ago that only 10% of prescriptions are paid for in England.
Children and the elderly get them free, pregnant women and those on benefits as well as those with certain long term health issues such as diabetes. Take all those out and your left with the generally healthy of working age so I’d say that sounds about right.
So in the grand scheme of things, free prescriptions for all doesn’t add that much to the bill as they’d be paying 90% of it anyway

Away from the OP but yesterday did I hear right on the news (BHS at 9am) that UK is to 'dump' 800,000 covid doses as pass use by date of end August. Or was this a malicious rumour. If so why was this not sent to more deserving folk in poor countries. As to flu jab not bothered in previous years, even last Autumn. Am well in the age group though. Might get it for first time this year.

Moderna is the top Covid vaccine manufacturer over here in the U.S. are about to offer a combined Covid / flu shot in one jab.
This makes perfect sense , similar to the combined vaccines for dairy cattle Lepto /BVD etc .
Also it would save a big dolllop of logistical time if it can be done !!
I have never had a flu jab, despite getting offered one for the last 2 -3 yrs , but it does make you think its going to be well worth it ?
You wouldnt want to get flu and then Covid afterwards ,when you are compromised somewhat

Maybe they should offer those to the farming community instead? Most have never been too concerned by expiry dates, whatever Red Tractor might think.🤐😂
