What is needed to make a 'better cloud based software' we all would like to know.

My apologies I phrased it wrong, I want something that can do all what gatekeeper does but far more simply. So mapping budgets PF stuff. I havnt really looked into what else is available as I figured if there was something equal everyone would be on it.

Gatekeeper Express is exactly where they are heading and seems to do the simple bit, without the overcomplicated bit. Or so I'm told!

Is Gatekeeper Express being priced more reasonably to attract new business and expand the data that they can sell?
I made an enquiry but have heard nothing.

Good question that!!

Is £17 a month really "reasonable" for what it does?

Compared to GK full version then yes....but in isolation?

I've had a reminder this morning that I'm not signed up to the "data sell off". It indicates that I would get access to data about top 10 chemicals, average grain prices etc if I join in...

So the question is... Is anyone really making use of these extra features or are they simply a feature to encourage me to sign up.

NB - Farmplan, please feel free to comment if you're watching this thread and don't sit quietly on the sideline! Your input here would help....

I don’t know why anybody is surprised or feels they are being stolen from. It’s the way of the world these days and when you skipped over or, more likely, ignored the terms and conditions, those terms and conditions would basically be summed up by saying “ we will do whatever the chuff we like with your information “

Get used to it. It’ll only get worse.

Its the way of the world for some free services like facebook and twitter etc but gatekeeper is paid for (very expensive) software so I think its fair to expect complaint when as a paying customer your service provider starts selling your data

They have also gone about it completely wrongly (maybe illegally even according to a barrister mate ) offering a default opt in asking users to opt

Don't think, as a new customer, you even get the option to opt out now.
It's why I won't move to Gatekeeper.

I can honestly see a ppi style group action claim in the future - you can't sell peoples data without their permission

Reed Business information Ltd own Farmers weekly and Farmplan

I there is a clue what they do in the name !

I'm not sure about company to company information but the new GDPR law coming into force in May 18 will have a massive impact on how companies can use individuals information and the fines for breaches are a significant improvement on the current system.

I’m not disagreeing with you and I’m not saying it’s acceptable, it just seems that these days it has become the norm for this sort of thing to happen.

It will infiltrate every aspect of life before long. Data will be making our minds up quicker than we can ourselves soon and many people will go with it so it will just escalate.

I knew about that. It's nothing short of scandalous

On a expensive paid for product like GK along with default opt in it certainly is - I have no issue with swapping data for a service (as many do with twitter / facebook etc) but being charged fpor the privilege is a bit much

I also dont think

Current fines for DPA breach are big, just doesn’t seem well enforced sometimes

From what I have learnt about it so far the new rules are more about giving individuals rights to know what data companies hold on them (personally)

I was talking to an IT guy I sell hay to for his horses, he works in data management, he says all the big corporations are doing their nuts about the new Data Protection laws coming in next year, he reckons they are all trying to get their skeletons out of the closet now while they won't get fined - so expect more revelations about big companies who have had customer data compromised to hit the news over the next few months.......
