The great global warming scam, worth a listen I think.

Last night I felt a bit depressed after spending a day sowing fertiliser on my previously best fields. Reason for my depression the proliferation of rushes.:banghead:. I thought to myself “it must be climate change”, and the seemingly endless rain we get these past years.

Then I read this article on Bloomberg, and thanked my stars, it’s just rushes I have to deal with.

The article I think is a succinct overview of the rapid change occurring in global agriculture due to climate change. Once again and sadly, it’s the poorest regions and poorest populations which will be hit the hardest.:banghead::banghead:

Climate Change Is Messing With Your Dinner https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-climate-crops/

@Ashtree A very well presented article, and very sobering too.

I too am conscious of the fact that huge numbers of people are facing much bigger problems than me. I have been unable to get on the land (even on foot) since the end of February due to 18" of rain since then. I think I may be looking at a total failure of the almond crop and I have olive trees that have fallen over because the ground is like a thick soup and the roots just pull out of the ground. I have a lot that are leaning badly but not yet down. At the same time I will not starve to death, or have my land permanently inundated with water, or be killed by hungry people who want to steal my crops.

I think your previous post is what can be expected in some parts (ironically we are expected to have much less rainfall) because the warmer air holds a lot more moisture which menas overall not only more rain, but in heavier falls too.

I suppose we do not have to farm, but it is all I have ever wanted to do and will keep going as long as I can.

Temperatures for week ending 10 April from this week's #ClimateUpdate

Maximum temperatures were well above average across most of the country. The highest anoma...lies were between 8°C to 10°C above average in NSW north-western Victoria, SA and central parts of WA.

Several locations in NSW and Victoria observed the hottest April day on record.

Minimum temperatures were also above average (2°C to 4°C) for most of the country, although the highest anomalies (6°C to 8°C) were in south-western Queensland and north-eastern SA.

Now we are in a cooling period ( low sun spot activity ) the oceans are cooling and taking back in co2 not releasing it.
Co2 is a heavy gas that find its way back to the sea from where most of it came.
The evidence shows I'm correct, co2 levels follow the earths temp not the other way around!

@banjo on the weather today, it said that its around 28 degrees in the south east, very close to new record for April in the uk?. Are you still confident we are in a cooling period?

I'm fairly south east, I can see Kent from the top of the straw stack on a clear day, and we topped out at 23°C today.
I suspect 28 was from a hot vehicle.

If you look at the date it's halfway through April, it should be warm it's nearly summer.
Have you actualy read anything I've posted, I said colder longer winters and warmer summers due to the jet stream shifting ( its caused by less of a magnetic efect of the sun onto the earths poles )
Longer colder winters, hotter summers just like the 1940s period of the earth.
We still have the seasons of the year, are you mad!

sorry my bad, i get a bit lost with the argument sometimes. colder winters, hotter summers so the yearly average stays the same?

That's 'weather'. Out here in West Wales its been pleasantly warm today but I doubt it hit 20C. The forecast for Saturday onwards for the next week is mainly wet.
Was out spreading fertiliser today and I've only once seen it so wet so late and I think this must be one of the longest, most consistently wet periods I've ever known. Last year was better than normal and we cut silage in the first week of May and my neighbour in the last week of April. I can't get on half my fields with a tractor to spread fertiliser so far this year, and its the 20th April tomorrow.
While it hasn't been particularly cold here this Winter, it certainly hasn't been particularly warm either. Next week is meant to be back to 'normal' April temperatures of 12C or less, so locally at least its not 'Climate', its 'Weather'. Not particularly nice weather apart from today and, hopefully, tomorrow.

PS
It clouded up significantly and cooled right down by 3pm today. Its been looking like rain since 5pm

Yeh its definitely weather, one sunny day means diddly squat. i was just interested because a few months ago 'the beast from the east' was being used as evidence that climate change is false. i was wondering if a sunny day changed @banjos mind?

The middle graph shows that we are 0.21 degrees warmer this year than the 1981 to 2010 average. Personally I don't find that convincing evidence that global warming is a hoax.

The first graph shows that the 2018 artic sea ice volume is at the lower end of the 2004-2013 average. 2016 and 2017 were well below average. Again I don't find that very convincing evidence that global warming is a hoax.

@banjo , We also see a similar trend in the data in 2010- 2012 but that didn’t last, also do all the temperature data sets concur? That’s the lower atmosphere what about sea, land, upper, middle. Are they all agreeing? I only ask as your sources tend to cherry pick data. As we don’t see actual links to the sources of your data, your CMIP6 data would make intresting reading if I could find its source? Which I cannot, the official site for CMIP6 I found, foxed me as I couldn’t find that data. If you can please post a link.

Yep they all agree, temp drop since 2016, sea level drop since 2016, arctic ice increasing since 2016, I'm not making this up and when I have a bit of time I will put it together for you.
Just to add that when it happened in 2010 to 2012 the sun spot activity hadn't dropped to the current low levels we have now.
