Not in Kenya you can’t land prices here are similar if not more than UK due to the ability to build on any piece of land so all land is building land. Places like Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa do have cheaper land and some problems too. The wheat price here is about £270 tonne. My landlord has just harvested 1.2 tonnes an acre off irrigated land. You won’t find many Lexions or subsidies here.
You obviously dont need either

Is that yield normal or particularly bad?

It should be better but it’s like a spring crop 110-120 days. Varieties here aren’t good but it probably didn’t get much fertiliser and seed eating birds hammered it. The best i have done is about 2 tonnes an acre but i have a better variety at present and am spending a bit more on it and looking to get 3 tonnes which should be very good but i don’t know if it will happen. I think our altitude 1820 metres is a bit low considering we are on the equator.

Apologies for starting this thread and then cutting and running. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t really a moan thread, I won’t be left destitute, I have an income independent of farming with my houses and a half decent 4 day a week salaried job.

I was really looking to learn for others experiences as I am not ready to throw the towel in at farming as I am heavily invested in this one emotionally and financially.

Anyways, in an ironic twist of fate father had a pretty serious accident on Sunday evening since starting this thread doing something he really shouldn’t have been doing at 77. No fool like an old fool.
