Has anyone got any quick release couplings for the motor circuit on their hedge trimmer cutting heads to swap over with saws or other flail heads etc? Just was wondering where to put them on mine, whether at the motor end, or where the bulkhead fitting is on the end of the arm? I am getting a quick attach bracket from McConnel so that I can swap heads a lot quicker than I can at the moment. I have some flat faced couplers but just don't know which is the best place to put them.

Would like to see some pics of that bracket when you get it

You want some big jubilee clips on the coupling so no branches can pull the foreskin back and un couple it.
would imagine a big bang in the pump if the return came off at full pelt with the pressure still going, perhaps the old dowty screw upones would be ok, if they still make them

Just make sure they are large enough for the flow, you dont want them restricting the pump or motor
The ones I have are 203 l/min, the pump output is 128 l/min so I think they are adequate. I really went into this by finding out all the details before ordering them.

Thats why I have gone the flat faced way, the female couplers have pips on the body, you turn the collar around 90deg once connected to stop that from happening.

I have been told the "arm half' of the bracket isn't just bolt on like the orbitor unit, it replaces the usual pin and bracket that comes with the machine. There are hooks on the "head half" and these connect up and the whole lot is fixed together by 2 bolts at the bottom.

Not sure if this helps:

Got the Q/R couplers on now as I had a leaky fitting so I thought while I had took the bottom guard plate off it was a good enough time to fit them. Dealer has the head in stock, just waiting for McC to sort out the quick attach plates, probably get them around Xmas... ;)

Well yes they didn't give a year... last time I needed a part from them it took 3 attempts to get it right, first time ordered in August, then it eventually came in October but was wrong, I think it was near enough last Xmas when it finally was the right part. Seriously they need to sort themselves out I mean ffs I reckon they lose a lot of customers due to their shoddy parts service.

So I've got an intermittent problem with my mcconnel 6565t. With the rotor turning in the upward cut direction after initially cutting for a few hours the rotor will switch off even though the xtc box shows still on. It's wired direct to the battery with the supplied cable. Tractor is a mf 6480 pto is in 1000 speed and tractor is running around 1000rpm to get 500 at the shaft. Tried 540e putting tractor revs up to around 1400 and seems to have cured it. Is it likely to be the battery or alternator?

Try a voltmeter on when tractor is running, you should get something like 13.5-14.2 volts, when stopped should be 12 or thereabouts. If its a reasonably new battery then I would put my money on the alternator. Could also be a break in the power wire somewhere to the xtc. Will have a look at the voltage on my Revolution screen today and see if there is any difference when running on 540e and let you know.

Before starting tractor battery was 12.8v after starting was 14.4v.
Twice last night it happened when I moved the shuttle lever into reverse - when I still had 1000 speed selected.

Got a similar problem to you. Running a mcconnel 6470t on a 6480 at 1000 PTO. After around 1 hr, joystick movements become slower and rotor cuts out. Tried it on a 6495 which has twin alternators and same still happens. No option of eco pto!
Multipin plug gets warm on xtc box(MK2). Cleaned contacts but still same.
Just sent box to be checked out and all ok, so now ordered new loom from xtc box to machine but apparently non available until September !
Someone else was having similar problems on another thread last week.
Be interested if you find a cure.
