Here we go roads contract 2017! Got 2014 McConnell 5860 and had issues with controls slowing down when hot. Oil cooler fitted & on 2nd xtc box. Getting around telegraph poles is painfully slow

Been looking at mine today, same issues
Check your power is straight off the battery, and everything is clean
I soldered all crimp joints today on mine ,the rings on to the battery and took the anderson connector apart and soldered the crimps in there but didnt get a chance to run it long enough to see if its worked
My oil only gets as warm as bathwater (40 degrees )with cooler

Have you had a update done on the box?

Had exchange box from McConnell, improved for a while but back to poor now. Mine still gets hot on a warm day, only slightly warm in winter. Radiator is bad to clog up needs blowing out daily.

Did notice on mine the loom coming out of the box was slightly warm, i was going to open that to see if theres anything up in there
Im wondering if the earth is up to the job in the loom

Are these problems we're having a mcconnel only issue or are other makes with similar controls suffering too?
May have sorted mine:unsure:
Calibrated the temperature compensation with a cold machine, then calibrated the joystick again with cold machine

Did 3 hours cutting and i think its ok

Every other time ive tried any calibration the machine is warm and been run for a few hours

Next chance i get i will time the arm movement when cold and again when warm to see
Also put the multimeter plugged into the anderson plug to keep a eye on voltage

Following link shows how to calibrate the xtc. However think it needs to be a mk 3. Unfortunately in my case my box is a MK2.

Could you tell us how you did the calibrations please? Put a voltmeter on myself recently (y)

yeah mine is the mk3 box as per link
mine went back to Mcconnel for an update to the software as i couldn't do the temperature calibration
if you cant do the calibration get on to your dealer, riverlea told me mcconnel were standing by the boxes as theres a known issue and the update was free so worth a call

i never thought to try the calibrations before switching the box on before:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Done some arm times with cold oil/box on my pa65t
,mk3 xtc controls

Head, left 7sec right 10
Dipper arm, out 11 in 11
Slew, back 10.5 front 8.5
Tele, out 8 in 9
Lift, up 10 down 23

All times are rams end to end bar lift which was sat outside wheel on the vertical with enough room to clear cab and at 450pto speed

How does that compare to others?

Could I ask for suggestions for bonnet protection on a Jd 6920? Only doing our own so don't need anything fancy (read expensive!). Managed to break a few grills on the side of the bonnet last year, they are still there so any tips for glueing them back on appreciated. Only snapped at the top or bottom.

Edit: and it's got loader bracket on if that's a help.

How many people out there with McConnel hedgers change the tank breather? Just noticed in the manual that it says to change them every 500 hours??

funny you say that I was getting a hyd filter for the cutter today and asked about the breather. he said according to their system I was the first person to ever ask about one. if I wanted one he'd have to order it in so don't think many do it.

bit of plywood attached to loader bracket to bolt holes near front should be easy enough

I went to my dealers to see if my quick attach brackets and head were there, the new head was there but no quick attach brackets yet . Had a head pressure pipe start to leak today, cost £73 to get one made up. The tank return filter has started leaking again, I think its probably because the O-ring at the top has been cooked when the oil cooler wasn't working. Fed up of oil drips and leaks on a £35k machine.
