The Hedge Cutting Thread

Our 40 year old McConnel is coming to the end of its life. What is best to replace it with, trims hedges and dykes, to fit on a 70 HP tractor? Does about a weeks work a year so do not want to go too expensive

I reckon there's less growth on our hedges this year. Mostly 5-6 foot on the elder but barely 3' this year. What about everybody else?
Yep, i'm finding a bit the same , very dry arond here til about early July ......that's when trees/shrubs make their most growth,i guess

Just got a hedge cutter for my own use around the farm its a mcconnell hyrech not sure of the model number . Its on cable controls but was originally on electric controls . Has a upgraded 1.2 m head . No roller . I'm planing on changing it to oil over oil joystick cause some the cables are sloppy . Any tips on getting started and making a decent finish on the hedge . Do ye guys Sharpen your Flails with grinder disc or flap disc ?
