This might sound a bit thick, but I know nowt about hedge cutters.
I know some rigs can only cut one way, i.e. to one side of the tractor (which must mean a lot of wasted time), but how many machines (and what make) are there that can be swung either side?

Why would it mean wasted time? You can only trim the left hand side of a road and can drive round a field clockwise to cut the hedge

Well for example, a farm boundary hedge might only be accessible from one side: we have such a hedge.
I have little experience of a hedger that runs both ways but they aren’t easy to handle on the other side to normal because your controls are working in reverse to your instinct.
I was hedging in a field with ditches each side, the drainage board machine was working at one side and turning round at the end and swinging the hedger round while I was working adjacent to him reversing working one sided, by the time he had turned round and got it slewed round I was cutting!

Interesting. However on long runs the 180 slew would come into its own.
I take on board what you're saying about the controls though, and I guess one side is always going to be preferable to the other, for all sorts of reasons.
