Did you get sent a second test today @JCMaloney ? They want a lot of blood for this one - enough to send into the lab!
Certainly did! Thought it was something else!

Interesting comment on GPS when I can`t get one to take my blood pressure and fill in a medical form to reapply for my driving licence. I can of course pay a private clinic who employ moonlighting GPs to do this but I have to travel fifty miles rather than a five minute walk to my local surgery.Masks - on public transport, in large venues but will be optional rather than mandatory. 6 months or so.
Testing - will be used to focus on local outbreaks rather than as it is now. What it is doing now is showing the picture across the country. We do "heat maps" down to postcode level so the testing will almost become by street or by tracing contacts. That gets easier as the volume decreases.
The other testing "thing" will be holiday testing for crossing borders to reduce the risk of import/export. Think vaccination status and a negative test to leave and return.
Lots of our local GP`s are setting up Travel testing clinic`s using our labs, easy money for them!

The ethical standards of GPs has sunk to an all time low.
My cousin is a nurse practioner in her previous job working in a surgery of six GPs she was told off for prescribing non generic drugs By using generic drugs the GPs were able buy the drugs at a lower price but claim the price of the brand name drugs from the NHS by doing this the surgery made £100,000 extra per year which was divided up by the partners. GPs in my experience not a good bunch.People complain about privatisation of the NHS but the front line and first port of call, the GPs are already operating a privatised service. Until recently I have never been refused services by a GP and at the same time being told that I can pay for them privately by travelling over 50 miles to a hotel room for a simple sight test and blood pressure check by an NHS doctor.
I hate to be critical in these difficult times but I refuse to see how this is taking pressure off the NHS. It is simply a cash cow for doctors.
Our local practice is carried by nurse practitioners. The doctors are not held in awe as they once were. I spit my teeth out when I have to sign an official document in front of a certain category of "professional" person such as a doctor, lawyer, magistrate etc. .They might just as well classify them under the description of people in whom trust is mis-placed.My cousin is a nurse practioner in her previous job working in a surgery of six GPs she was told off for prescribing non generic drugs By using generic drugs the GPs were able buy the drugs at a lower price but claim the price of the brand name drugs from the NHS by doing this the surgery made £100,000 extra per year which was divided up by the partners. I married into a medical family father and mother in laws surgeons sister in laws doctors and wife is a vet so i know a bit about it now however my experience of other doctors is not good trying to get a GP to see my Dad last year was impossible they just did n’t want to know no matter how much we tried to explain a telephone consultation with someone with dementia wasn’t practical. My aunt couldn’t get a Gp’s appointment for over month at Christmas finally when she did she was immediately referred to a consultant a week later dead of stomach cancer. Practices vary in my locality but far more bad than good. I have a retired doctor friend who worked as an industrial doctor for most of his life and he is disgusted by the present situation. You would imagine that being "one of them" he might have an edge but this is not so. He was registered at my local practice but could not get treatment for his very debilitating illness so he managed to move to another practice which was equidistant from his house. Most of my doctor friends from the old school have now passed away but without exception their anger, disgust and frustration was building at the declining ethical standards.I married into a medical family father and mother in laws surgeons sister in laws doctors and wife is a vet so i know a bit about it now however my experience of other doctors is not good trying to get a GP to see my Dad last year was impossible they just did n’t want to know no matter how much we tried to explain a telephone consultation with someone with dementia wasn’t practical. My wife says it used to be a vocation now it’s a profession. Healing is not as important as making money.Practices vary in my locality but far more bad than good. Since GP`s gained more control and are incentivised by profit things have certainly changed and not always for the better.
A brief example........
Covid test costs around £30 to do, staff, consumables, estate, kit etc.
We charge private provider (GP) £60. £30 "surplus" per test, this is good we can reinvest in R&I, staff, kit etc as we are doing a lot.
Private provider charges J.Bloggs £120 £60 profit for handing over a bit of paper.
If we increase the price to £90, Joe pays £150........
A Church of Ireland rector described as one of the church's "most likeable people" has died at the age of 46 with Covid-19.
The Reverend John Anderson, rector of Billy and Derrykeighan in County Antrim, died on Saturday morning after going into intensive care.
He was admitted to Causeway Hospital just over a week ago.
He leaves behind his wife Eleanor and three young children.
The Bishop of Connor, Right Reverend George Davison, says his death had come "as a terrible shock to us all".
I guessed some of you may have known him , very sad indeedYes, a tragedy. Known in North Antrim as a genuine country parson, who had devoted his life to the community since 2005. Had also had his first shot too, but presumably not long enough.

He was employed by ICI, presumably charged with employee welfare. What is an “industrial doctor “?

I await the 2nd antibody test result with interest. The vet turned up (early) when I was drawing the blood and looked somewhat shocked when I came to the door with blood running down my hand.
(If you thought the last one looked a bit messy....... )
When I explained what I was doing, he laughed and said he'd one one too and he got blood absolutely everywhere, it's rather difficult getting it into the tube!
