I have an 895xl with suspected head gasket failure or cracked head. Haven’t operated on it as yet. Still using it with k seal added. Is the way forward a new head or skim existing head after pressure test? Needs pistons liners and rings to make a proper job of it too

I am no expert but I would pressure test and skim by the experience we had with an 884 years ago. The pistons and liners are not difficult in situ , we made up a puller for the liners out of some studding and plate. Check the valves with head off as well.

Have you had the 706 since new ?
No paid stong money for it last year, so it had to earn it's keep. One of 3 or 4 UK originals left.

Use it for bruising feed, Single rake, Duncan drill and Watson Aerator which makes it work. 4270hrs since new.
It was local for a few years but originally Saffordshire and Warks plus an IH demo. Lovely thing sounds awesome son put chrome exhaust on as he is watching far too much Youtube. Bought a 550 plough for it too which needs work.
Contemplating refurbishing as the paint is fair with lots of brush painting mate has just done our 12k hr Deere 6506 which looks stunning. Be interested to here comments on what to do with it, love the job some of the US guys make of them but torn about destroying authenticity

2 x 706's were bought new by the previous owner of our farm in I presume the 1960's ? They would have been sold in 1979. I'd love to know what happened to them. Been chatting to a chap on the IH Facebook page, who set them up, and was responsible for maintenance. They'd been used on large rotovators ( also imported ), but the angle of the PTO apparently caused problems. I like to see them restored to factory fresh condition, others say " It's only original once ".

Have you removed front grill to check if radiator is clear as it's my opinion that a lot of head gasket problems are caused by blocked radiator
Also is fan blade clean

Yes radiator clear thermostat out I think it’s major surgery but still using it. I’ve heard cracked heads are the norm for these

Baled 123 wee bales today and not a miss

This view showing the bar going from the axle to the bale chamber reminds me of unloading 440 and 445 balers in
the 70's... it was necessary to jack up
the pickup side and place a specially fabricated bracket and wheel to the bar to unload the baler off
JC Ashworth's arctic. I remember a
driver saying that is the best way he had seen. The 430 and 435 were narrower so were ok for unloading
The baler in photo looks to be in very
good condition but needs a new pto
Shaft cover guard fitting for safety reasons and to avoid a fine from health and safety inspector

How early is that one? Twin drag links but full size diff lock pedal. Vacuum or mechanical governor?

Er, I’m sorry to say I don’t know the answer to those questions.
The main reason I bought it was because it used to belong to my dad, it was his scrapper tractor when he had pigs ( back in the late 70s) then i foolishly sold it back in the late 90s. Finally got the chance to buy it back for me and my kids to smarten up and have some fun with.
So any idea how I can find out it’s age? Didn’t have a log book when I sold it years ago, don’t imagine it’s possible to get one now?
