I know about Platts, I used to get a coffee there when I was at school at Brigg. Boarding school can get so boring on a Saturday morning but my best pal was a Davey that farmed at Somerby Top and dealt a lot with Platts!!

@Lowland1 Did you come across the Late Rex Walker a rep at the Horncastle Depot?

We didn’t deal much with Achurch but I do remember my Dad buying a muck fork from them and picking it up on a Saturday morning when home from boarding school ( Kings Grantham). It was easy to work out whether an International had come from Achurch or Platts because a tractor from Achurch would have the owners name sign written on the bonnet which must have been a Horncastle thing as Friskneys did the same.

@Lowland1 I think your right about the name on the side of Tractors!! We bought a 1056xl Turbo just before the world match at Wispington. It was on the International Harvester stand at the match. Now you will be aware of the Craven 'I am bigger than you attitude' well brother and I asked if our partnership name could be put on the side of said tractor. Just for fun!!!

At the risk of taking this thread over I have another story for you. About three years ago I bought a Stanhay beet drill from a farm near the Belmont mast. Talking to the farmer about it he told me he was in Achurch’s when Bob Craven came in. He asked the farmer if he had started drilling beet yet to which the farmer said yes they’d been at it a couple of days. Craven told him that it was too wet for them to which the other farmer asked him what colour wheels he had on his drill Craven replied blue. ‘That’s your problem mine has the orange wheels they don’t stick as much’ the farmer told him. Straight away Mr Craven ordered a set of the orange wheels. My drill has blue wheels and never had any other colour.
I repeat this story as told to me and hope no legal action follows.
