Did anyone catch the piece on radio 4 today about

https://www.impossiblefoods.com/burger/

A burger that looks, tastes and feels like real meat but is vegan. Developed by some food scientists in the States and recently gotten backing from the likes of Google and Bill Gates who have pumped in I think about 200million dollars I think to aid development and more research.

Chefs saying it is easier and better to cook than a standard burger, blind taste tests showing people prefer over normal meat burgers.

Its clever stuff..........and a potential threat to red meat sales in years to come.

Obviously the look ,taste and feel of a real burger must be considered superior to the vegan offerings they have at the moment!:scratchhead:
It would be interesting to analyse the precise ingredients of this vegan burger just to check out how healthy it really is!:bookworm:

Couple of points I wondered about when reading that.

a) which burgers did they offer people as a comparison? Given the choice of a Richmond sausage vs. a vegan sausage I might struggle to tell the difference...! A farm shop/butchers offering however would be different.
b) how does it compare in price to a meat burger?

Not sure about a) but b) works out about $25,000 each!

Bill Gates tucking into a beef burger with the slogan 'This thing tastes so dam good I've decided to copy it'.:)

The precise ingredients are listed on the website.

One interesting point I found that was not mentioned on radio 4 is they use a GM yeast in the process. That may be a temp stumbling block for countries. Outside the states.

Bit like bottled water....it pisses out the sky nearly every day of the year but people still pay a quid cos it’s in a rotten plastic bottle
Ah, but if you were seen last year carrying a plastic bottle of water "to re-hydrate" you were cool. This year with all the reports of plastic oceans you are seen as a planet killer.;)

Wow! Animal farming uses 30% of the world's land!

What else are you going to do with it FFS?

This reminds me of the "healthy" margerine of the seventies that was made in a vastly complex industrial process, whereas butter was just --take the cream off milk and churn it. So what's the carbon footprint to create a fakebuger?

If you can't give up the taste of burgers, are you really cut out to be a vegan?

Why do Vegan's want to simulate meat anyhow ???
This surely must be it's downfall.
I assume vegans are vegans because they can't stand to eat anything that they perceive is the result of harming an animal. So why on earth would they want to eat anything that gave them that experience?
Is that what you call an oxymoron?
Or is it just moronic?

But I know steve wright on radio 2 this week had some couple pluggin a book and vegan lifestyle... it was pretty in ya face I thought....

Aye good old BBC.... Impartial unbiased debate!!!

I would like to have a wee word in the ear of the producer/editor of the said program.....

Or maybe our industry needs to bang down the door and suggest they send someone on to talk about the benefits of a healthy balanced diet containing meat.......

I wonder if we would even get over the door....

Aye well done BBC.... :banghead::facepalm:(n)
