Defenders used a monoque chassis and beam axles for the reasons the bloke is describing? They were used because they were old technology and cheap! Loads of codswallop, every other 4x4 manufacturer has it wrong with independent axles and suspension and a mono chassis?
You say in the first post that they were only used because they were old and cheap and then admit in your second that they are more capable at off roading, be consistent.
I think if you are a livestock farmer, utilities line worker, forestry worker, mountain rescue etc. you are going to want the most capable off road vehicle as what you will encounter in a day will be markedly different than having to turn on the grass during the school run as it takes 50 feet to get your badged SUV pointing in the opposite direction.

Unless you’re one of the sneaky beaky types you wouldn’t be taking a soft skin vehicle anywhere near the front line these days anyway.

Very useful for getting a couple of REME VM’s out to a broken down Trojan in the middle of Salisbury Plain though, or the OC back from his three course dinner to the middle of SENTA.

Land Rover must be sh——ing themselves. That’s how someone has just destroyed it in the yard.

Salisbury plain can be a very dangerous place to drive off-road, I know a guy who was in a Warrior IFV (surely the ultimate off-road vehicle) when the driver got lost at night and threw the thing off a steep incline- promptly rolled over onto it's roof.

Looks like a Lada Niva
To me it doesn't look that different to the last model Santana. :scratchhead:

Does it really matter what it looks like in a commercial vehicle, it how it performs and v6 with 8 sp auto sounds the mutts nuts to me but it needs to be cheaper than a defender or who would take the risk with the inevitable teething problems and unknown residuals

If the spec is as high as stated I can't see it being sold for anything like pickup money. Don't know anything about Ineos but my guess is they will only build small volumes a year which should keep residual values high.

Well I hope it is something that looks like a defender but is built better. With more comfort and a gearbox that doesn’t involve stick stirring.

biggest disappointment will be the price I bet!
One things for sure though the design team! 3 years of development!

wonder what they were doing for the last 2 years and 364-1/2 days?

When I went to the toyota garage I wanted to buy another hilux as mine had been faultless except for one sensor in nearly ten years and 85,000 miles, this time I wanted to have an auto box not manual so wanted to drive one, lad said you will have to go to Bristol 28 miles away, I said I bought my current one here, no you didnt he said, I said you were still in school when I bought mine and as I live 150 metres up the road I think I know where I bought it, still said I had to go to Bristol , I just left , life must be too easy for them
If you couldn't be bothered to drive just 28 miles to Bristol to test drive an available one, you weren't that keen on purchasing one. Your 150m away depot would have sold you one I'm sure.
Yes, they could have brought one over for you and they weren't really trying, but that's the way car dealers and their salesmen are. If they don't sell you one, someone else will be along in a minute wanting one.
