The NI/ROI Protocol

No. But it’s worth reminding folks, that the troubles grew out of the old regime! John Hume, Austin Currie, et al, walked and agitated for human dignity, for decades denied to catholics, by the unionist Stormont.
The new Stormont for all it’s ills, at the very least, prevents forever a repeat of the old ways.
If only Paisley hadn’t been such a rabid, bigoted, piece of work. If only Paisley, had allowed Cpt O’Neill to do the decent thing, which I’m sure most ordinary decent unionists had no problem with.

Doesn’t sound like “getting Brexit done”, does it.? After all, the Europeans were to ruddy well, form an orderly line, with their paperwork in black ballpoint writing, checked, double checked, signed and countersigned, at Her Majesty’s customs border.
Oh, and we were to have all signed up to Her Majesty’s new British quality mark, or face having our products rejected at the border. Britain would not be accepting, mere EU CE marked stuff. But that too has been quietly shelved.
Wonder will @Danllan chief negotiator of CONZUK, insist on the cousins meeting this new invisible British quality mark? I dare say he will, if only to dial the “sovereignty” feel good factor up a notch or three.

You don't live here, so you don't know what's it's like getting things delivered. Stick to talking about what it's like living in Scotland.
I spend a fair bit of time in both places so I can compare.
Do you regularly spend much time anywhere else to compare your current situation to?

How do you know the rest of the UK isn't similar, or maybe even worse than you are, since we can't trade freely with the EU like you can.

I get the impression that being the victim suits some agendas.

The dogs on the street know that NI has a far, far superior supply chain, to the mainland. Business organisations there are clamouring for the benefits of protocol to be retained.
Latest offer from EU on Protocol issues, will make it even better still.
Of course, there are Covid related lack of choice as opposed to supply. That’s a global problem.

The “angst” about the protocol is not anchored in any significant supply chain issues. It’s rather a political and emotional angst, felt by some unionists, as it does represent no doubt, stupid miscalculation by their political leaders, treachery by Boris, and ultimately the dilution of their Britishness.

I very much doubt, if the gamble of the unionist political leaders payed off and NI voted overwhelmingly for Brexit, and consequently a hard border had been erected on the island of Ireland, that there would be any sympathy for the nationalist community.

But, they played their nativist card and lost. The people of NI gave their answer. The consequences have to be lived with.

What consequences?

Emotional distance from the mainland. Feeling less part of the mainland. More and more a place apart from the mainland. Increasing influence of ROI in economic and trade terms.
Old Paisley did warn of the the likes of this, and he did suggest that if unionists/loyalists were to breed a bit more it would help.
The fruit of his ideology would have been keeping the votes more balanced by now.
