The NI/ROI Protocol

What you think is crazy I don’t think is crazy. It still isn’t acceptable to call someone a nutter who believes something different from you. You know as well as I do that I can’t provide hard and fast evidence of that. I am a simple farmer not a theological scholar. I can’t see the wind, but I know it is there and I can see it’s affects: What I find intriguing is that you spend a lot of time arguing against God and religion? Maybe deep down God is speaking to you?

My initial point remains that it is unkind, uncalled for and unacceptable to call me a nutter because of my religious beliefs. You are fully entitled to your beliefs as am I, and Edwin Poots.

Yes there are things which are open to interpretation, however other things Gods word is crystal clear on

Again though, it's not that simple. What you might view as God's word, another Christian might not. It's fairly widely accepted that God didn't sit over the many writers of the books, and dictate to them word for word, in English. They were mostly writers describing what they understood to be the ancient traditions passed down to them by word of mouth, like in the Pentateuch; or like what was passed along orally (second hand, many years later) to the gospel writers of witness accounts to the scenes in the gospels, combined with in some cases scholarly research of other similar 'writings' i.e. writings based upon other writings, which were based upon passed along oral versions of events. This helps to explain how apparent contradictions occur, and why many people disagree about the content and the precise intentions of the writings. The search for meaning and truth is one humanity will never give up on, nor will it ever find broad consensus on the best way.

Why shouldn't the DUP oppose abortion as that is what they and their voters believe in. However you would have us accept that Sinn Fien can force their pro abortion views on the rest of us?

Total inconsistency in your views.

The DUP have lost ground because they have left their core voters behind by compromising. I have heard a lot of DUP voters saying they are switching to TUV because of this. The ditching of Arlene Foster is a direct result of this potential loss of votes.

Her abstention on the protection of religious views in the gay conversion debate was the final straw and the apex of the issue of compromise and desertion of core party views.

I don't think you can say that's the case. Just because a party comes up with a manifesto, doesn't mean every voter agrees with every point. The DUP may take votes from non-religious loyalists, who vote only because of its position toward power sharing and the union. It also gained votes in the noughties from the UUP as a knee jerk reaction to the IRA not decommissioning soon enough, and things like that. They may or may not share the same views on NHS abortion services. Equally, they may have votes on the basis of their abortion services policy from some religious Catholics, despite not sharing their Unionist philosophy.

I’m sorry to tell you it is that simple. A chorus we used to sing at Sunday school- one way to get to heaven- Jesus is the only way. The search fir meaning and truth can be found in saving faith in Him alone.

Believe what you want from a religious aspect. No problem there. Now, if you want to lead a political party, and potentially be in the case of NI, it’s first minister, you are the first minister for all. Believers, non believers, flat earthers, science led people, etc, etc. You must leave YOUR religious beliefs and YOUR God, out of your now politics for all.
Best way to be honest, would be for religious fundamentalists, to stay out of politics.
What’s interesting about the DUP fundamentalist politicians, is they preach about God, and righteousness, and blah, blah, blah, but they are no less likely to be caught with their two big sticky paws in the cookie jar, than say a Shinner, or a Toryite, or a Labour man. Ash for cash anybody?? Paisley senior funny money??? Paisley junior funny money? Etc, etc.
Their righteousness to be perfectly honest, is a thin brittle veneer, over what lies beneath .....

So what you are saying is that secularism trumps religion. I must leave my beliefs and my God out of politics, but no one else must? The secularists, humanists, bunny huggers, etc, can pedlar their fruitcake nonsense in politics, but no one else?

What you are saying is, you don't share my religious views, so I am not entitled to have them.

What happened to civil and religious liberty?

How to be fair and balanced government, leader, PM for all the people, if you put your religious belief above all others, in civil matters.
Poots creationist beliefs, are plain utter nonsense. Simple carbon dating is proof. Plenty stuff on this planet dated fifty thousand years old. His beliefs say earth was created 4,000 years ago.
He's utterly unsuited to be leader of a science led society. Imagine the government preaching to trust science in the battle against Covid, with this guy as First Minister.
Sorry boss..... this creationist shyte cuts no ice, and Poots and his cohort need to keep those beliefs strictly between themselves.

Science? At one time scientists thought the earth was flat. My uncle says he was taught at school the earth was gonna freeze with another ice age. Now in x amount of years sea level gonna rise by few cm but don’t worry with mans great intelligence we can save the planet by killing all the cows😂

You have not answered the question or addressed the issue. Those who have a different religious view point to you must leave their views at the door.

However no one else is being told to leave their views at the door - abortionists, bunny or tree huggers, those who believe in euthanasia (as in RoI at present), Marxists, socialists, capitalists, etc.

Must everyone leave their beliefs at the door, or only those you disagree with?

Must a farmer leave his views aside because he might offend a tree hugger or contradiction the tree huggers 'science'?

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Gal 6v7

When it comes to judgment day, will you tell God he is not allowed his views?

and when a scientist discovered the world wasn’t flat and actually rotated around the sun, how was he treated by the church?

Britain, a modern, advanced, science based, tolerant country and society, had this collection of “loonies”, holding the balance of power in the last parliament.... hard, very hard indeed to credit it!!

You are fine with your views. Work away. Now, if you want to become a political big wig, and leafing minister in government, and you want to be taken seriously ....... that there boy is a whole different story,,
Quick question. You have graciously allowed me to have my silly views as long as I don’t have an important job. Edwin isn’t allowed an important job cause of his views. What happened to discrimination laws? Race religion sexuality? That like me saying Leo couldn’t be pm down south because he is of different race and sexuality. There would be uproar.

Bless you. The straw that broke the camels back for Arlene, was the fact that she and some of her colleagues abstained in the the motion calling for a ban on gay conversion therapy....WTF 😱😱😱😱😱

I'll add to the mix that some of the most open minded, tolerant, progressive, science-aware people I know, also happen to have a religious and/or spiritual outlook. You just tend not to hear as much of them though, because they have a heightened understanding of the sensitivities involved in the vast range of human experiences, and that a spiritual journey through life is necessarily different for everyone.

With respect to the religious group traditionally at the core of the DUP, the Free Presbyterian Church, it represents only about .6 or .7 of the NI population, but in the last ten years has had a disproportionately large influence on social policy, partly also due to the cross party mechanisms in the assembly and executive. Curious too that, not only is it a tiny minority of the total population, but also a very small minority of those who claim a religious faith or affiliation.

That was before my time😂tell me what happened
