"Legal purism" = following the rules both sides previously agreed in a binding treaty.

Just got sent this...

"Do we need to read this?" "Nah, we'll just sign it and wing it afterwards, what could go wrong?'

The crucial point is that @DavidGHFrost is NOT saying that the Withdrawal Agreement is being misinterpreted by the EU. Rather, he is saying that he/HMG had not properly understood it when they agreed it and for that reason, it should now be read to mean something different

So Frosty et al signed up to a document they didn’t clearly understand. Why be surprised? Tens of millions did likewise on referendum day.

So Frosty and Boris knew "water is wet " and didn't give a sh!t!

Na French Peasant - this is culmination of Mutti, Napoloen, Ursus Minor and Barney Rubble just using this Achilles Heel of the Northern Irish trying tonobble each other for years to pick a hole in the British exit - ably supported by the Irish contingent in USA. So its all bollox. And over a sausage. Or as I said months ago the ability of me a Lincolnshire bloke wanting to send a Melton Pork Pie to a friend in Londonderry. All out of proportion. And just the culmination of EU evil superstate annexing Northern Ireland as the price of Brexit. Feck them mate. The EU lost my vote when I found I couldn't send a Pork Pie to my Irish mate - as if tis is going to undermine the EU Single Market - all true dicks.

It was the UK government who removed your ability to send your pork pie. When we were in the EU you could have sent your mate as many pork pies as you wanted.

Irrelevant reply. sidesteps the real point. We are not in EU. But Northern Ireland my mate is British. This was annexation - and should be called as such. Hope Billy tells Ursus Minor to sling it. My Pork Pie is going to Derry to be eaten - not into the pure EU where they wouldn't recognise a good Pork Pie if it him in face.

yea but it was Brois who sold NI down the river. even May didn't want to do that. but Brois want to do it as fast as possible so betrayed NI and signed a bad deal just so he could say "look at me what a great man i am" and all the brois fan girls/boys wet their knickers and say yes you are. all the EU is doing is the very same thing we doing about the Australia deal , make sure food of a lower standard doesn't enter their market

I don't think Bozza and Frost had any real intention of ever fully implementing the protocol they concocted. IMO they are hoping to whittle it down until the Irish government is forced to put extra controls in place between it's ports and the continent. Particularly as the EU comes under growing pressure from other third countries to have the same access rights as NI.

how was it, i don't think there anything in the rules about a country getting a loan (which the RoI pay back in full early)
The Maastricht Treaty contains juridical language which appears to rule out intra-EU bailouts. First, the "no bail-out" clause (Article 125 TFEU) ensures that the responsibility for repaying public debt remains national and prevents risk premiums caused by unsound fiscal policies from spilling over to partner countries.
The ECB purchase of distressed country bonds can be viewed as violating the prohibition of monetary financing of budget deficits (Article 123 TFEU). The creation of further leverage in EFSF with access to ECB lending would also appear to violate the terms of this article.
Articles 125 and 123 were meant to create disincentives for EU member states to run excessive deficits and state debt, and prevent the moral hazard of over-spending and lending in good times. They were also meant to protect the taxpayers of the other more prudent member states. By issuing bail-out aid guaranteed by prudent eurozone taxpayers to rule-breaking eurozone countries such as Greece, the EU and eurozone countries also encourage moral hazard in the future.
