The NI/ROI Protocol

I have just been reading an article about the Cairnryan dock and customs processing facility in Dumfries. The Scottish government are ceasing work until they get assurances that the UK government is going to foot the bill. I can understand where they are coming from but with all their yap about independence, who would want to finance a facility which may ultimately benefit the Scots but be of no significance for the rest of the UK.
Who the hell would invest in a facility in Scotland when the SNP are stirring up trouble for the rest of the UK.? I appreciate that geographically and logistically it may be in the right place if the status quo is maintained but otherwise it is money down the drain.

I would guess its 2 fold.

1) they just want money

2) I'd assume an independent Scotland would be keen to trade with Ireland and the EU.

Sooner the damn things abolished the better. Only serves the Irish backed by EU as a big fingers up to us.
I imported a tractor in February and some grain fans in august. Took until now to get paper work sorted with the trader support police sending up to 20 emails a day!!
I imported a slug pelleter from France (delimbe) the postage was half that of getting it from bullock and no paperwork. That’s not even to start on the list of stuff we can’t get from the mainland

I've one question for are friends in the Eu and in the South if the protocol is not cousing problems then why not move it to the border with the south I'm sure there wood be no one up in arms over it
Exactly this.
Why do our friends in the south come up north to buy all their grocery’s and farm implements ifs it’s so prosperous down there.
All our stuff is imported from China/ outside Europe through UK anyhow so it’s just sticking another border of paperwork in the way

All island economy. We buy plenty farm stuff from NI, and sell plenty farm stuff in NI. Look up plenty NI equipment dealers, you see they have agencies for ROI manufacturers. Abbey, Conor, Major, HiSpec, Malone, Cashels, etc, etc. Look ROI dealers, you see they sell NI manufactured stuff. It creates a bigger and more competitive market.
Haven‘t you heard of the enormous cross border trade in ag products, milk, lamb, beef, livestock, etc, etc. It’s going in both directions.
It just makes economic sense, and Brexit has actually significantly increased that trade, in both directions.
Clearly a LOT of NI folks, come down south now for holidays and short breaks. Just have to look at the number of NI reg plates, around the west coast in particular and in hotel car parks. It has increased dramatically over the past ten years. And so also in the opposite direction.

There was an all Ireland economy before Brexit too.

can't read that as it behind a paywall. but given that it was the UNELECTED lord frost (who can't be sacked) was the guy that negotiated the NIP and got us into this mess, does anyone still trust him that he know what he doing. anyone like to bet he restart the negotiating, and come out of it with a full united Ireland , claiming he has solved the NI problem (and as i say that as a joke, given how badly he has handled Brexit and the EU, and how little he seem to understand how thinks work in real life, in the back of my mind i wouldn't be surprised if he did)

Very few politicians seem to be worthy of trust.
